Gabapentin can reduce/eliminate opiate WD and craving?

I find that one single dose of 400mg makes me much better able to deal with the world, and namely my kids the following day. It also helps me sleep. I have a supply of these so I figured why not. Now, I want to kick Suboxone really bad. I have been on it for 5 years. My ADD doc who prescribes me Concerta wants me off it. He says it is counterproductive to take an opiate when you have ADD. He has offered to supply me with Clonidine and some benzos if I am ready to kick. I never believed in clonidine, figured it would just drop my BP and make my part of the floor. But perhaps I can conjure up a cocktail to function through a taper. I have heard that certain amino acids like L-tyrosine and B vitamins work well also. I may have to try this.

I'd kick the opiate if you can. B vitamins are always a good idea for detox. For L-tyrosine, it depends on your "serotonin state", i.e., what else you're taking that effects serotonin (and your other neurotransmitters too but in my personal experience I find thinking about my serotinin levels is important for a variety of reasons but mainly because I manipulate it).

I myself have to started to enjoy 3-4g of gabapentin + a couple of medibles. For some reason, I am highly functional on gabapentin and very lowly functional on the medibles. But when I combine them, I am highly functional and high and it's a different sensation than using either alone. Polydrug addiction happening in real time (I'm reluctant to go without at least one of these)? But at least I'm off the fentanyl and still feeling great.

I think the opiate dependence and addiction are very insidious. They're different from alcohol addiction. Opiates are not so immediately destructive as alcohol. But over time it seems they do throw your homeostasis off esp. if you keep increasing dose due to tolerance. They keep you depressed in a medical sense so when you go off it, you'll get some energy. But you'll also feel bad which I've decided to compensate with gabapentin + medibles. Healthwise I feel better but I've traded one extremely serious dependence (fentanyl for one year changes you a bit but it's significant enough to matter---it's an extremely potent dependence) for another perhaps milder dependence but still with pain relief and better mood.

Its so interesting how everyone has a different story about gaba. I take it when withdrawing and it helps alittle with anxiety (usually have some kind of benzo for that anyways), hot flashes/cold sweats, makes me fall asleep easier, and puts me in alittle better mood. But then again Ive only had minor withdraw issues over the years where ive taken breaks to lower my tolerance or couldnt find anything. Im not saying this is the miracle drug that cures opiate withdrawal....but it does help take the edge off of the things I mentioned. Plus, I stop taking the gaba right after I feel better so I do not get dependent on them.

I know this is an old thread but i just needed to share..it is true gabapentin works it is true. I wont bore you with my medical maladies but i take alot of oppiates i take 64 mg of exalgo in the am two 10mg ir opana every four hours and 30mg oxycodone one every 6 hours.. For whatever reasons my scripts where delayed and i had to endure two days without anything...i was terrified i happened to have a script of 300mg gaba so i filled it and took 1200mg the first night i actually knocked out and slept through the night i was shocked the next day i took 900mg and made it through the day and another 1200 that night..now besides feeling like i was in a fish bowl i had no ill symptoms that are usually associated with oppiate withdrawl..it really works please dont suffer needlessly try it..

Gabapentins are AMAZING But Rembember anymore then 1200mg every hour or minimum 45 mins possibly 15 minutes is how long it takes for you to be able to take more for effects so basically 12 taken 4 at a time 1 hour apart is highest you can get off it considering the Effects Last between 5-7 Hours and it Finally Kicks-In And Starts To Take Effects 2 Hours After Consumption And 3 Hours Maximum For it to Peak And Acidic Stomach Makes It Kick in Faster Instead Of Slowly Effecting you it Hits you Quicker And More Intense. Also Food With Gabapentin Increases Absorption Same with Opiates possibly Opioids definitely Morphine for up to 4 After Morphine It will Potentiate GABA so say you took Morphine 2 Hours ago you can take 4 GABAS and it will be A LOT STRONGER ALSO 250MG Of Naproxen A.K.A. Aleve Increases Absorption By 12-15% and DO NOT CONSUME CALCIUM AND OR MAGNESIUM INCLUDING Magnesium Stearate which is a Filter in everything from Vitamin C Like Taking some of it Will Not make Any Noticable Difference But it will WEAKEN THE EFFECTS SAME WITH CALCIUM IT IS BECAUSE GABAPENTIN GETS TO THE BRAIN AND EFFECTS IT THROUGH THE CALCIUM ION CHANNEL PRIMARILY AND SECONDARILY THE MAGNESIUM ION CHANNELS From the Heart to the Brain Or Something Along those Lines Like that Okay?

^Damn, I hope English isn't that guy's first language. Or he was blasted when he wrote that....

Bumping this as I am planning to take some Gabapentin to get me through fentanyl withdrawal. High dose, I am actually planning to use it to help ride out the withdrawal as long as possible so the Suboxone I have works better and I can start the Sub at a lower dose.

One stupid thing about a lot of the commentary in this post (especially the dude with the commie flag avatar) is that he trashes it as a Opiate W/D aid but he uses is daily. I take a Xanax daily, so benzos don't really do much to help my opiate withdrawal. I can jack up the dosage, but I don't like to over-do it because I'll have to work my tolerance back down. I do still up the benzo dosage during opiate w/d, but not in a crazy manner, I like snorting them just because I mainly snort my opiates and its mentally pleasing (I also believe Xanax works nasally, hits harder but last shorter, valium/klonopin don't do much nasally).

But mainly I just wanted to mention how people are knocking the use of gabapentin for withdrawal when they are quite tolerant to it. If you are a daily user and therefore physically dependent on a drug, its less likely to help you in any manner, especially one like gabapentin which is reported to have tolerance spike quickly and not bring much of the euphoric effects of its first usage after it has been used several days in a row.

Fentanyl is a real tough one to quit using.

Although Im not really in favor of using methadone as it's too strong and lots of users are led to believe they can use it for a life time, also bc it's difficult to stop using. I guess the same applies for Sub.

Anyways, it might be one of the drugs that could help you temporarily.
Just until you can decrease the use substantially, after calculating the equivalent dosages.
After all you need to withdraw in order to use sub, right?

It can be done quite effectively from my experience. The problem with both meds, methadone or sub is that one tends to use them indefinitely in some cases.

I only mentioned methadone as you would have to w/d in order to start with sub. And Fent w/d is pretty difficult IMO.

PS: I also believe that Lyrica is better than Gabapentin for withdrawal and treatment.

Good luck!

I can definitely attest to this. Currently prescribed Gabapentin, and I have been for several years.

I'm currently a recovering heroin addict, and even had a period of time where I used fentanyl daily for a month or two. In any case, I've found Gabapentin extremely efficient in reducing withdrawal symptoms. Even before I reached the point of addiction where I was stricken with intense withdrawals, I would frequently give friends of mine who were experiencing symptoms of withdrawal Gabapentin. They reported relief to a similar extent as I described above; in fact one of my friends said it made him feel almost entirely well.

Needless to say, Gabapentin is great for mitigating withdrawal symptoms. I've also found Clonidine (an anti-hypertensive) to be equally as efficient as Gabapentin, if not more. The two together will help you significantly.

Gabapentine Day 1 for suboxone withdrawal

I've been on 8mg subs for nearly four years with no consistent progress. I've used up all my subs again with four days left and I'm sick of this shit! The last week or so has been on 3 strips divided to make it last. I'm taking too much of my adderall, various ssri`s, one nsri, a few of my witems but albino ahead of time but oh oh here she comes!........the adderall hasnt let me rest and now I can sense the restlessness around the corner...........BUT!.

I'm reading and stumble across info on gabapentine. It caught my eye because my wife gets prescribed this for fibromialga. She doesn't take any of it, but the doctor keeps giving it to her.

So, as the bell went off inside my head, I grabbed 4/300 MG capsules and down the hatch. I will update this daily or every other day because If it works, I want others on suboxone or opiates to know.

I've been a fucking slave to this shit for way longer than I ever would have imagined so..........let's see how much relief comes and I will get back with some news.
.............................................
Here I am days later, after quiting suboxone and I can tell you that the gabapentine has taken half of my withdrawal problems away. Namely the chills, restless legs, and it has increased my appetite immensely. I'm not out of the woods though. My sleep is still lacking and my energy comes and goes very quickly.
I'd like to THANK all of you for your posts!!!! This is where I found out about gabapentine/neurotin!! I'm one week off of Subs today!! I went from 8 mg a day until I realized I had used up all subs exempt for two. With my Dr. appointment a week and a half off I made those two last until Oct. 16th. I couldn't have done this without going back to the Dr. again for more subs without neurotin. As you can read here my thoughts aren't flowing so I apologize if this seems a lil incoherent.

Please, Please at least ask your Dr. about gabapentine/neurotin as it has been a pure relief for me.

HANG IN THERE. GODBLESS. I LOVE YOU ALL. DO IT FOR THE BETTER YOU THAT YOU KNOW IS THERE. THEN DO IT FOR YOUR LOVED ONES AS THEY SEE YOU BATTLE THIS BEAST. IT HURTS LIKE HELL. I'VE WANTED TO BLOW MY HEAD OFF THRU THE PAIN. I'VE WANTED TO GO BACK TO MY Suboxone DR. AS I COULD DO ANY MINUTE. IF I DIDN'T HAVE ACCESS TO GABAPENTINE, I WOULD. I THINK I'VE BABBLED ENOUGH AND DRIVE HOME THE MESSAGE MORE THAN A FEW TIMES. THANK YOU AGAIN.

DAEMON
