I still haven't got it clear, I think I read someone claiming tramadol blocks the GABAa receptors and that it has a 1/6000th of the potency from morphine.
Is any of those true?
I'm looking to enhance my experience with opiates as this is would be my second time.
First time, it (tramadol) took anxiety away, in a way my Lyrica and Clonazepam never could, it gave no high though, in a way my Lyrica and Clonazepam have always had.
I shall mention I did took it (250mg) while on lyrica (900mg) and clonazepam (2mg).
Right now I'm on 1200mg of Lyrica, and 4 mgs of Clonazepam. Should I try the tramadol?

Regards!

I am assuming you are on such a dose of Lyrica for recreational effects. I also assume you are not aware of seizure activity at anything above one gram of Lyrica, even with clonazepam (it happened to me). Adding Tramadol to such a high dose of Lyrica is asking for trouble. One of the reasons tramadol lowers the seizure threshold is because it is a GABA antagonist.

Lastly, whilst tramadol has 1/6000th of morphine's potency, o-desmethyltramadol doesn't.

^^^^o-desmethyltramadol comes out to be 9x morphine if I remember correctly. (correct me if i am wrong) Those things can give a nasty withdraw on par with a slight to moderate heroin habbit. The only thing different is tramadol gives SSRI withdraw symptoms as well.

Thanks for your input!
So yesterday was my second and, last I think, experience with an opiate.
Took it in the morning and didn't feel much, just drowsy in the afternoon. I must mention, it did took my anxiety away, no high though.
I am interested in depressants as I have GAD, and currently looking for a replacement as my drugs doesn't seem to be as effective as they used to, even taking break every weekend, starting on fridays (3 days of hell).
Is there anything else you would recommend? Maybe switching to codeine and leave the Lyrica/Clonazepam combo? (My pdoc told me an opiate would cancel the wd effects of Lyrica & Clonazepam)

Thanks in advance!
Regards.

Actually I am on tramadol now after breaking it off with my shrink who had me on 4mg xanax and 16mg buperenorphine per day. Tramadol in my opinion is one of the best opioids for using off label for its SSRI properties which really do reduce anxiety even though traditional SSRI's never did the trick for me.

I dont see the point of taking lyrica and I would not stop using clonazepam if you have it for the GAD. Codiene has a ceiling effect that makes it pretty pointless to abuse. If your plan is to take it for anxiety/depression/pain every day, then I would say tramadol in the 100-200mg range will do you right because of the relatively long halflife along with the strong metabolite it produces. Can anyone else weigh in on this? I am pretty tapped for advice without knowing more about the situation.

I just stopped because it seemed to anatagonize the GABAergics, plus it made me a little drowsy in the afternoon, but nothing serious.
I also didn't note any "high", but loved it's anxiolytic effect.

The anxiolytic effect was almost certainly due to the M1 metabolite of tramadol (O-Desmethyl tramadol is actually fairly strong, particularly to one with little or no opiate tolerance). Personally I say stick to the lyrica and klonopin for GAD, as those have been somewhat effective for my own anxiety conditions. as with all drugs however YMMV.

Actually I'm looking for a replacement for Lyrica, as it doesn't work as it used to.
I take breaks every weekend, but it all went downhill since my pdoc reduced the dose, from 1200mg to 900.

It does not "antagonize gabaergics". It works with them just like any other opiate does.

The only difference is that Tramadol lowers seizure threshold so you're more at risk of seizure IF you do not take your daily dose of gabaergics.

For the record: all opioids lower seizure threshold by some rate, but Tramadol in particular is much more so than all the others.

I was addicted to Tramadol for about a year and it never interfered with my benzo and/or gabapentin intake. It did completely remove all my craving for alcohol though.

But really, it is not worth taking long-term. IME, Tramadol withdrawal is worse than Heroin withdrawal.

this has been stated many many times.... LISTEN TO THESE STATEMENTS

It happened to my brother

Yeah, 100-200mgs of tramadol will reduce your anxiety and make you want to clean a forest, but...

after a few months and a year..... IF you want to stop...... it will be hell

I've gone through heroin withdrawal..... twice for the long term...including PAWS twice...for MONTHS....

The immediate accute withdrawl from tramadol is nothing like heroin

I am currently devising a withdrawal plan. I have gone through mild withdrawals before but this time I have been aprox 2 months on anywhere from 100 to 150mgs daily. The other day I was forced to go one day without the stuff and the WD was some mild depression but not much, so I think I am at a stage where I can still withdraw with ease. I would say that at doses below 200mgs you will be experiencing WD's akin to SSRI's for it is not until you hit over the 200mgs mark that the painkilling effect is noticeable.

I have found St John's Wort, pregabalin and benzos to ease the WD tremendously. In fact, I am thinking of writing up my WD methods for those who are interested in getting the monkey off their back.

Yeah I've only take opiates twice in my life, a week ago, it was tramadol.
So yeah, you could say my tolerance is zero.
Not very interested in the opiates as they only seem to get me drowsy.
And yeah I have GAD, that's the only reason I tried it, and it did got my anxiety away.
