What is the function of kainate receptors?

And are there any allosteric binding sites, and positive/negative modulators of KA receptors known yet?

Activation of presynaptic kainate receptors seems to reduce release of GABA via coupling with CB1 receptors which is interesting, direct agonists are going to be seizure inducing and probably excitotoxic but a positive allosteric modulator might be interesting.

Thoughts?

Very interesting read.:)

Glutamate is definately the receptor of the 2000's. Highly complex, extremely prevelant in brain tissue and not to be messed with haphazardly.
