Not everyone has plenty of money and sometimes it can seem expensive to stay healthy eat right exercise etc with very little. So I thought I would put this here for recipe, cheap free ways to get fitter without paying for gym membership, or even trying to find a park etc if you have no mode of transport and can not in fact afford a bus journey ( I went on public transport a few months back and got a hell of a shock realising how much they now charge)

So here is a recipe for nettle soup, 2 tablespoons of butter, 2 tablespoons of plain flour, 2 cups milk, 2 cloves of garlic, several bunches of fresh young nettle tops, 1 cup of veg stock, 1 onion finely chopped, 1 small potato grated. Can always add in some chives or thyme for different flavouring.

fry onion and garlic in the butter, add in nettles once soft add in flour then milk add in potato and stock. Bring to the boil then simmer for 10 minutes, then liquidise and add seasoning for your prefered flavour. This is cheap to make and not much time either. It should provide a couple of portions unless you are greedy and just eat the whole lot :D

Cheap free exercise, go to cupboard lift out 2 tins put 1 in each hand and procede to extend arms out front pull back in towards chest or out to sides and slowly in small circles rotate your arms, helps get shot of bingo wings.

other part of frugal healthy living is reducing the amount of chemicals in your household cleaning, replace half laundry detergent with tablespoon of bicarb of soda and a few drops of your favourite essential oil still clean but smelling better using less harmful chemicals for ones that are kinder on skin :)

i was just thinking of trying this recipe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYPzoVKbotM i would sub potato for the sausages to stay cheap

as for exercises, push-ups and crunches are free, but i'm glad i invested in a doorframe pull-up bar because that provides the opportunity for exercises like pull-ups and chin-ups but also some intense ab work. for shoulder and chest exercises i use adjustable free weights, a bench is not necessary. the cost of all this stuff put together was ~$100 but it's a one-time fee and in the long-term saves not just money but time and time is expensive!

^ Yep and id like to add running outside for cardio. It's definitely cheaper than a gym membership if you are only looking to do cardio workouts

This is indeed a great idea Maya. However, every time I go out to run my back hurts a lot! I´ve gone through a surgery in my leg and ever since, my exercises end up in taking anti inflammatory..

Learn how to cook and shop.

Shop the perimeter of the store (fresh veggies and fruits, bakery, meet area... avoid boxed cereals and frozen meals), and avoid packaged/prepared foods. Buy canned goods when they are on sale rather than when you need them.

Simple interval training is a great way to start and maintain your fitness. stretch then cycle through pushups, situps, squats, etc and repeat, repeat, repeat.
