I recently had a friend die over the weekend who wasn't a known drug user, but that doesn't mean he wouldn never try anything. Anyway, he was young only 34 so we don't think it was natural causes. There is a report that they found frost in his lungs. Does anybody know what substance that might be? I was figuring Nitrous or ether, or something like that.

I don't think it would be too off point to guess some sort of inhalant.

Sorry for your loss either way. :(

The most likely causes are volatile gases since as they expantd the temperature falls. Air duster, nitrous oxide, and butane are the likely culprits.

Ether is not volatile enough to cause frost burns in the lungs - only on exposed skin, generally.

I'm so sorry for your loss. My condolences.

My assumption would be an inhalant with a refrigerant such as difluoroethane. This is found in many computer "dusting" products such as Dust Off, Innovera, etc. If you have ever used this to clean or read the bottle there is a warning about frostbite if the product comes in contact with skin. This product is readily available at office supply stores ad pharmacies and is relatively cheap. In one particular area of my state this is becoming a major problem and has caused fatalities. Many users think it is safe but it is so far from the truth :(

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss.

Unfortunately we can't help you outside of the realms of pure speculation.
