From Snorting Opana to Railing Kadian

These forums are SO dense... my goodness... I am just seeking information, here's the story...

My sister was in college (had kicked a meth addiction), had her own place, access to free college, daycare, medicaid and food stamps.. I urged her to go to school full time or work the other half of time she wasn't in classes, to put her kid in daycare but she wanted to be with her kid when she wasn't in school, and I told her you need to pay your bills (apartment, etc because she'd lost her Section 8)... Instead, when she got her 2nd semester loans/grants for part time enrollment supposedly she had tried a recreational drug snorting Opana ER... and she decided to buy a bunch of pills and sell them to make money. Truth of the story is kind of fuzzy. This is what my mom told me... that my sister was about to lose her apartment because she spent her grant/loan money on some drug called Opana.... That was March 2010 - in July my mom asked about if I knew much about self-injurers, and she finally told me my sister was pretty addicted to these drugs from back in March. She said she had moved back home with her kid and went morning to night looking for O ER.... I visited home, saw my sister who had lost tons of weight... and when she walked it was kind of with her hand behind her back a little, and when she talked, her mouth moved funny like slanted.... or tense? Can't really describe it, but she would barely make eye contact (shifty).... after that I went home and was devastated for days. I found her some treatment options.... blah blah blah. She wouldn't do inpatient because she didn't want to leave her kid, but said Suboxone would eradicate her dope sick withdrawal systems and she'd quit that way. She got it.... clean a few days... supposedly someone 'stole' her prescription... she got it again clean a bit, but eventually she started selling her Suboxone.... She'd told me before she had a $225 a day habit (in a small town w/no job and a poor home).... anyway, now my mom threw her out for stealing and pawning shit (she cries and has break downs w/o the drug and says her tolerance is SO HIGH that she only does enough to keep from dope sick) but is aware all the overdose issues. In this small town, many overdoses, many suicides from withdrawals, etc... so Suboxone didn't work, she went to inpatient for less than 24 hours claiming they wouldn't give her meds for dope sickness... and now, she's told my mom that she just can't stop thinking about it... but she's started shooting Kadian - yes railing it.... because it lasts longer than O ER - and she doesn't have to look for it all day and all night. --- where is this headed? what will it take for her to get better? she could go to jail, or who knows. Thoughts anyone? I am curious about kadian and the difference I know is one is oxymorphone etc, the other morphine, but one is pure?one is synthetic? what is the difference with snorting O Er and shooting kadian? hard to find online - details appreciated. PS, my mom says they never shoot a whole pill because they split them up sometimes between 5 kids *young people* who are all addicts... wtf!?!

Also, I wish I could get her ibogaine treatment but can't afford it.I don't think conventional detox is as helfpul w/opiate addicts as opiates change the person at a cellular level.

Both Opana and Kadian are synthetic opiates and lab produced at that.

and also, for future reference, please try to get to your question as soon as possible. We're here to help, but if we have to dig through a mountian of relatively useless information (for us), it makes it a lot harder to help you out.

Hey man sorry to hear about your sister. The reason people shoot morphine or any drug is because it gives much greater recreational value. I don't shoot but, I am a tolerant user and I can tell you that insufflated or oral morphine isn't very good. Oxymorphone is a stronger and usually more desirable drug and my guess would be that she has to shoot the kadian to even come close to the Opana insufflated.

As far as where this is heading, truthfully that's only up to her. No one can make her quit. She has to want it. If you'd like to talk more about dealing with your sister's addiction I can move this to a more appropriate forum.
