Is it any different to normal dmt can i just sandwich it in between my bud??

Freebase DMT

Hi, welcome to PD / BL! 
Commonly found DMT is actually freebase.
It's like this: drugs are often alkaloid (basic amine containing) chemicals generally found in either salt form or freebase form. No need to really understand that, but just remember for example cocaine is a salt, and crack is the freebase form of cocaine. Freebase drugs often have lower melting points and are better suited for smoking. Salt form drugs can often burn (and be destroyed) instead of evaporating.
On the other hand, in salt form drugs are better suited for snorting and oral use.
Very crudely put you can turn a freebase drug into a salt by adding an acid like vinegar, or turn a salt drug into the freebase by using a base like ammonia. There is a little bit more to it than that but that is basically how it works.
As for smoking technique, there are many threads on it here which you can find using the search engine on the top left. Yes typically a material is put underneath it to catch any DMT that melts while you are smoking it.
