By former drug warrior I mean that I was a communications assistant to the Minister of Justice in Canada right as we began to ramp up our drug war. By junkie, I mean that for the last seven years I have been a (mostly) high functioning IV OxyContin/ Dilaudid/ Morphine/ Fentanyl (in that order-ish) user. Prior to my work in politics I was in the Air Force for five years, and post politics I've worked as a pollster, think tanker and mental health advocate. Although I've become relatively outspoken in my opposition to the drug war (I spent a year running my local branch of Students for a Sensible Drug Policy), I've never been very open about my personal drug use (and yes, I'm using a pseudonym).

I recently attended a coming out party for an old Cadet buddy, and it was an incredibly refreshing experience. So many people asked him (he's in his late 20s now) why it took so long, and I went home thinking how much I wish I could have a coming out party myself.

In the past few years I've been fascinated by the biographies and auto-biographies of people like William S Burroughs and Art Pepper, unrepentant users in a time when it was even more frowned on than today. I personally believe we are approaching a Berlin Wall movement when it comes to drugs (Marijuana, anyways), and have my fingers crossed that in the near future we will look back on the bigotry towards, and forced institutionalization of drug users today as a historical anomaly.

Anyways, look forward to chatting with all of you.

WOWEE! You sound fascinating! Educated, high-functioning, bright, and NO TYPOS. My friend the Captain here writes perfectly too. This will be so refreshing.

Holy cow! Tell us how much of each drug you do, if you'd like, and ask any questions. I'm very new here too and this site has a lot of really helpful, kind, caring, and friendly people. I'm very happy here. I hope you will be too.

Welcome!

Thank you all for the kind intros! If you could possibly be so kind, I'd like to give a brief description a few events where things got dangerous for me (almost O Dd), and I ended up pulling out OK (most involve that wily mistress fentanyl and the problems that arise from shooting a volatile (dose wise) drug that do to the cook process (acetic acid) has done wonders for my remaining surface veins. I feel that three years of using this combo of drugs (Duragesic Patches/ Vinegar/ Syringe) I could offer some possibly life saving harm reduction tips. Although I'd love to get going on junkie literature/ junkie rights, I feel I should get this out of the way soon so its out there. I noticed (things may have changed) that when I started shooting fentanyl there was little to no information on this forum (perhaps that's changed?)

Anyways, let me know where I can post that info.

Good lord, sounds like you've got a fair whack of experience behind you =D

Welcome to Bluelight, looking forward to seeing some of your contributions in the future!

So I've been browsing the boards looking for a place to discuss my favorite drug related literature. The more I seem to read from the old greats ( DeQuincy, Burroughs, Cains Book, Art Pepper) the more I see the fight for drug rights as have having a long and storied tradition. Without them, we wouldn't have our Irvine Welshes, etc, I see forums that could apply to modern scientific works, but not old (or new ) literary work. Am I missing something? Is there a board that maybe doubles as conversation in these things?

Most likely I'm just missing something obvious, so I apologize in advance for taking your time.
