we read the personal ads
over bad chinese food,
laughing at all the strange people that make up this not so little city on the water
even on gray mornings, almost noon mornings
her eyes are blue
like spring skies
mid-april
when everything begins to thaw
(Melissa says i am internally 8 years old, as she brings me happy meal toys. and i am, still seeing the world for its innocence)
we drive to nowhere
(even in the rain covered road-ways)
because we both have an urge to always run
last week is was Mexico
this week it is Vegas
we sing together in perfect harmony at 60 miles per hour
rolled down window rush
the smell of summer
we fit together
because we read each other's mind
like only best friends can
and even in my darkest hours
Melissa is my sunshine
the ice cream on my birthday cake, every year
making life a little more sweet
a little more bearable
because we are growing up
and Never-Never Land is fading silently into the back-light
and nothing changes
and nothing changes
Melissa loves me with no strings attached
unconditionally
never judges
because we always see the plastic bag blowing in the wind, like dancing on windy days
the simple beauty in life
and never a day goes by that i am not grateful for her in my life
for being cast the same part in the school play
because we say the same lines
the world turns on its axis creating fate to put two souls together
i am better to know her
and she will always be my flower on the side of a southern country road, brightening the sky
my little for-get-me-not

This was really sweet and sincere. It reads almost like a Springsteen song or something...

There's also something that permeates the entire piece that you're running together..not away from anything, but headlong into your life. I love this quality!

and even in my darkest hours

And this part really brought to mind that whole bittersweet realisation that life is becoming less and less of a magical adventure as you get older...but the payoff is that your friendship deepens and takes on whole new levels of relevance.

I could have quite easily quoted the whole piece, it's really well done. Nice one!
