So I am curious about how the bioconversion of these opiates affects their time to peak effect. In particular when IVing Heroin, Morphine, oxycontin (or any other opiate for that matter) how long did it take till you peaked. Now I don't mean how strong or long lasting the rush is but the amount of time from injection till you felt maximally high.
Waiting for some reports.
Thanks Guys

Heroin: seconds following injection
Morphine: seconds following injection
Oxycodone: seconds following injection
As everyone else said, the rush is the peak.
The true differences are how high the peaks go and how long it takes to come down.
Heroin has the biggest spiked peak. It doesn't last as long as morphine, but the overall high is more enjoyable and the plateau stays above that of morphine.
The oxycodone rush is *very* comparable to heroin. But instead of a gradually declining plateau, it's more like *boom* you're there and then you start sliding down and after two hours the high is almost completely gone. I almost prefer the oxycodone rush over the heroin rush, though. Simply because while it's not as much of a fuck-you-up, I think it's more euphoric. But the absolute best in my opinion is shooting heroin and oxycodone simutaneously.
If morphine was available and all I had, I wouldn't hesitate to shoot it, but I wouldn't seek it out, either. It's far better than nothing, but pales to both heroin and oxycodone because the high isn't as enjoyable.

The difference between the longest durration to peak and the shortestis probasbly, what, 2-3 seconds? Some drugs like Ketamine (yes, not an opiate) hit so fast you hardly have time to get the needle out, other like heroin, morphine, oxycodone, etc.. take a cople seconds .. if you have time to think "where is the rush?" then you either got bunk shit or you didnt do enough (or missed the vein)

How odd. I definitely don't peak in seconds. I can feel the rush in a few seconds, usually while I'm still injecting. However the rush keeps getting stronger for a minute or two -- I stay at this peak for 5-10 minutes before it drops off.
This is just for H BTW; haven't had the pleasure of IVing anything else.

For heroin, the rush doesn't last more than 5 minutes, then I'm just high. I consider the rush to be that time right after the initial injection where you feel like you've had the most powerful orgasm in your life and you can just sit there on the floor with your eyes closed going "aaaahhh". As well, you get these feelings in the back of your head, like you can feel the endorphine exploding down the back of your neck.
And yes, the rushes are all of slightly different length from opiate to opiate. So you would probably notice variations if you tried injecting other drugs. Hydromorphone, for instance.. the one time I injected some dilly, I must have been saying "damn" for at least 10 minutes before that initial rush went away. Which for me was significantly longer and more powerful than a heroin rush. But I didn't think the high at all compared.

I just banged smack again in the first time in what seems like months, it's lost a lot of appeal to me, but this last time was fucking insane. God that instant rush, I actually got the rush before I pulled the needle out. That NEVER happens with me, in fact, it had never happened before (even when IV'ing Ketamine). This was good shit.
Anyways, the peak came on as fast as it ever has, I'd put it at 1-1/2 to 2 seconds before I REALLY felt it good. In 5 seconds I had cummed my pants 7 times and was a ball of pure warmth on the couch, I stayed there for hours. I didn't even clean the rig and put it away, nothing. God I am still blown away, that was real intresting, to say the least. Anyways, the peak was so abnormally long too, it seemed like it lasted 10 maybe 20 minutes, it was so long. The whole high was a matter of several hours.
And I didn't do another shot, I went to bed and did the rest yestarday. Anyways, yeah, that whole experience was weird, just thought I'd throw it in as this is not my typical experience with opiates. I have had better opiate highs, but never such a fast onset or long peak...

I find my results with IV opiates to differ greatly from most, specifically those who have responded on this thread.
While I have never IVed Oxycodone, I can attest for the many times I have self-administered IV heroin and dilaudid (hydropmorphone)

Damn dude, I wish I was getting the kind of shit you are. What you describe sounds amazing whereas my experiences with smack have been, well, less satisfying. Although I can definitely relate to the feeling one experiences after one knows that the shit is in your system, which usually takes a few seconds for me to feel. Sometimes I find myself waiting to make sure I didn't miss my shot, then it slowly creeps and I peak after about a minute or so. So in that regard, heroin is more of a CREEP than a rush for me personally. But a very pleasant creep indeed.
Allow me to include my personal experiences.
HEROIN- I've IVed heroin over the last month and a half probably 30-40 times in various doses. Every time I have used the mexican black tar variation. I have never really experienced a great rush from this drug, probably due in part for my cautious nature when approaching it. I do want to live to shoot another day, and don't want to push myself to my limits, as many have discovered these limitations the hard way. So this could most certainly account for my inability to rush on heroin. Note that these are MY experiences and obviously not that of others.
Aside from this, I do find that while heroin lacks a rush it more than makes up for in overall sustained pleasantness and duration when compared to that of say, hydromorphone which I will address shortly.
Basically, I use heroin for a nice prolonged semi-instaneous buzz that lasts about 1-2 good hours.
Right after I inject the shit, it takes about 5-10 seconds to travel through my body enough to become noticable. While some might consider this a rush I don't. I just see it as a more immediate way of getting high. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but after 30-40 times IVing heroin *successfully* I would think that whatever rush there was would have really become apparent
Let's move on...
HYDROMORPHONE - All I can say is "WOW." The rush on dilaudid IS the high. However, even after injecting it into say my medial cubital vein, it takes about 5-10 seconds to kick in. So it still isn't instantanoues. Never, even on dilaudid, have I been fucked up before I've taken the needle out of my arm. The longest rush I had was on 6mg (not my highest dose) which lasted maybe 30 seconds and then I was high but not in a sustained way like with heroin. I shot it up, and I was SURE I missed my shot but then BAM like a fucking 2x4 hitting me in the stomache I had to grimace with joy and I was OFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF! But only for like 30 seconds max and then I experienced a cozy comedown which lasted probably an hour. I don't understand how all you people are rushing for minutes on dilaudid. Especially you Soviet.
In short, I use dilaudid for the rush and the after effects are nice side effect, but I certainly wouldn't use dillies to stay high all day. If you like to rush go with dillies, if you like to stay high for a while go with horse.

Interesting, there seems to be a great deal of variation in our experiences. I wouldn't have expected it.
EvilSpaceMonk, you say you don't feel any rush at all? No room spin? Odd. This is what happens to me, IV H:
Typically, it takes ~5 seconds after the start of my injection to feel anything. This starts as a tenseness and warm glow in my chest; my pulse and breath rates shoot up. Over the next 1-2 minutes, this feeling grows, becoming much more intense: it is hard to describe, but I feel very trembly and energized, as if some powerful bolt of energy were passing through my body. There is full-on room spin, and it can often be hard to focus on things.
This -- which I have always assumed was the same "rush" everyone else gets -- lasts for five to ten minutes, and then fades away over the course of another five to ten. As it fades, the opioid euphoria kicks in -- incredible happiness along with a warm burning feeling in my heart. Very similar to the feeling I would get when I was in love and incredibly joyous...
I don't actually enjoy the rush that much -- I very much prefer the next hour or so of the experience, when I am feeling the full euphoria and can go into little waking dreams.
So I take it this is significantly different from what happens to you guys -- Soviet/ESM? Anyone else want to weigh in?

I have a similar reaction to you, although I don't get the "room spin" as you put. To me, I shoot, I get high and I stay that way for a while (~2 hours). Again, this could totally be attributed to the quality of the shit I'm getting. Although I couldn't tell you since I've never done any powder smack.
I feel the drug come up after like 5-10 seconds and then the "warmth" slowly fills my body which is followed by a nice mental and physical relaxation. Don't get me wrong, I feel DAMN GOOD, otherwise i wouldn't invest so much time and money in my heroin habit.
I often find myself having to load numerous rigs before I shoot incase it just isn't enough to get me high. Nothing worse than spending all that time preparing a rig if it doesn't do the trick. After I shoot the first, if it's not enough I'll do another, and so on until I reached my desired level. This could also be why I don't rush. I don't want to die, ya know? So getting a rush isn't as important to me as getting pleasantly stoned for a good while.
I use heroin to stay high, I use dilaudid to rush. At least with dilaudid I know it's pure and I know the dose, so it's virtually impossible for me to overdose if I'm using reasonable amounts.
The main distinction for me is that after I shoot up my desired dose of smack, I'm good for a while. After I shoot up my dillies, once the rush is gone, I'm left wanting to do more. It isn't uncommon for me to go through like 10-12mg of dilaudid in an hour or two.
For all you poor ass junkies, stick to heroin. If you can afford it, get some dilaudid. The choice is yours...
Personally I prefer heroin, but dilaudid is welcome anytime =). I graciously accept donations.

I've only been playing with opiates for about 3-4 mons now, but here's my 2cents about the "rush".
When I IV heroin I feel the rush sort of coming on, that is, I feel the warmth spread from the injection site, so after about maybe 5 seconds it hits me, sometimes actually smacking me down to sit or lie there for 5-10 minutes, but I must confess I developed a bad habit of going on about my business while high, so after my rush I tend to not give in to laying there as long as I should. Hell, I must confess, at my last job there were a few occasions of shooting in the bathroom... imagine waiting tables like that. Were much more responsible now.Heh.

Hellfiregurl, it's funny you mention not sitting down all smacked up and 'going about your business' after you shoot up. I do the same the thing. I can't just sit there and be lethargic, I feel the need to get up and do something productive. I need to utilize my high some how. Go online and post, write, talk to people, whatever. Infact sometimes I start to put all my gear away and clean my room or do my laundry RIGHT AFTER SHOOTING UP WHILE I'M JUST PEAKING.
Opiates are weird like that...
They have a very strong stimulant effect on me, especially when it comes to performing mundane tasks like cleaning. If I've been using opiates frequently, my room is usually spotless. I know other people have similar reactions to taking opiates, especially oxycodone.
Anyone else?

Be aware that I drive an extra 50 miles to and then an extra 50 miles from my spot (100 extra miles in a trip) to get the quality heroin I do rather than settle for low grade cut up stuff.
I'm just really dedicated.
Evil, you also mentioned you were suprised I got such a long rush off of Dilaudid. Well, so you do know, I do agree with this statement from my one experience "After I shoot up my dillies, once the rush is gone, I'm left wanting to do more."
The time I did them, once the rush was gone I really didn't feel high anymore. I sort of had this weird feeling, but it wasn't anything close to IV oxycodone or heroin.. really weak.
ALSO guys, I want to mention this. I was paying more attention yesterday to how long the onsets of the heroin rush was for me and timed it. I had 3 shots yesterday and all took between 5-7 seconds. Also, make note that I always have time to clear my whole needle and pull it out before I get the full effects of the rush. I use a 1/2 cc needle incase someone else is using a 1 cc needle filled with water or saline. Because I'm only having to shoot 40-45 units.
H - Onset till rush: 1-7 seconds, It all depends on the quality and quanity I inject. Sometimes when I have some "Grade A" smack, I can taste the heroin in my mouth (tongue specificaly) before I inject the whole shot. When I rush my chest starts to feel tight, and I kinda gasp for a breath (in a good way) and let the waves of heroin roll through my body.
This is definantly accurate of what I generally experience. It's interesting you mentioned the taste of heroin in the mouth from IVing it, because I thought that was just me. I usually don't notice it until after my rush, though.

That's not so bad. I work at a medical laboratory and have shot up in the bathroom on more than one occassion. And gone into work high on many more occassions. Infact, today will be one of those occassions. I'm fine as long as I don't do so much that I can't keep my eyes open. I actually am more productive on dope than sober. And I hate my supervisor, so being irresponsible is fine by me. They have no respect for me, I have no respect for them.

For me, this totally depends on the dose. On low doses of heroin or on orally consumed painkillers, I almost always find myself wanting to do something productive and I notice a very very prominent stimulant effect. At the very least if I have nothing else to do I will either go play with some music stuff writing drum beats or whatever, or I'll talk online.
Actually, when I think about this more, I think I would say I would do something social rather than productive in general on opiates.. low doses anyways.
On high doses I prefer to be lethargic and nod out. But I only get myself to that point at night when I don't have to do anything else or be concerned about anything else. Tonight for instance I guess I passed out by 10, took another shot at 1, woke up at 4 and now I'm just staying awake because I'd rather go to work after being up for a while than just waking up and jumping in the shower and running off to work.
Well anyways, time to load a rig and take a shower.

the rush on morphine happened to me before the needle was out of my arm, but the other day i had IV demerol at the hospital, and i felt no rush at all, and it took like 5 minutes to peak.. it seemed no better than IM for me

Sputnic, Demerol is a sorry substitute for Grade A narcotics like HEROIN and DILAUDID. It works as an opiate analgesic, but in terms of getting a good rush it is, well, less desirable I would say. Although I can't attest for my own personal experiences, as I have never taken Demerol IV or otherwise. So there could be some recreational value, but from what I understand it's nothing special.
Soviet, sounds like you're back on the needle again. Maybe I misread, but you I believe you said you were trying to give it up and maintain a managable addiction on Oxy's. I'm not getting on your case, I'm just trying to see where you are with your use right now. I am using now, more frequently than ever I would suppose. The last month and a half has pretty much been opiate indulgance out the ass for me, but I manage to take breaks here and there to prevent withdrawls. But the cravings, oh lord the cravings!

I was off the needle for just shy of a month.. with 2 slip-ups where I shot oxy.. no dope, though.
Well, point is, I was doing pretty good. Then I had this surgery coming up. The doctor gave me a bottle of 50 Percocets almost 2 weeks prior. Those obviously weren't going to last. So I have been preparing for my upcoming surgery tommorrow and I will be using heroin instead of Percocet to treat the pain, the use the remaining Percs to get off the heroin then use a bottle of Xanax to get off the Perc and hopefully I can get even more clean than I was before. I wouldn't mind going completely sober for 2-3 months after this.
