This is going to be a bit of a long-winded post im sure, but hopefully the reader can dig out my major point.
Basically I wanted to share a case of the human bodies survival instinct coming to the fore and ask if anyone else has any information or thoughts on the subject...
I'll explain what happened anyway.
Sunday night, took half a tab of acid at 5pm, half at 6pm and another tab at 9:10pm. The acid was very clean head-feeling and purely visual trip, my gawd was it pretty :)
Went into the casino and saw the 9:30 session of Ice-Age (absolutely brilliant flick that I worry is going to pass by without anyone getting down to see it [so make sure you do!]). The trip was really in full swing, noises and visuals going nuts, one of the most -if not *the* most- intensely graphic drug experiences ive had (im a light-weight tripper, half a tab is usually fine, these just seemed to be weak at first haha :) ).
Came out of the movie and had a walk around outside, beautiful night, 28 degrees yada yada and then sat on the SouthBank Promenade both RachL and myself (we were out together, just 2 of us) got a really wierd feeling as the wind changed and decided to walk back into the casino as I wanted to go to barcode.
As we re-entered the casino, the place had pretty much emptied of all the people from earlier and security was beefed up on all the entrance points. The only people in the place were 2 very distinct groups of guys. One lot was coming from the South-bank walk direction and the other from the Galactic circus direction.
These groups were some of the roughest and dodgiest criminal people ive seen, and granted I was under the influence but colours were changing, it wasnt that I couldnt perceive what was happening around me. RachL was more of an indication of the state of things around us as she was straight and very scared.
(Btw the number of ppl here is around 100+, the 2 groups werent 5 or so in number, they were very large)
Were just about to enter Barcode when more of these guys come forwards of the walk bridge and I looked at RachL and she was obviously shitting herself as was I....
Now this is the were the point of the thread comes in (thank fuck you all say). My trip stopped. Everything stopped, point blank. I looked into RachL's face, saw how scared she was, felt the need to get out myself and everything associated with the acid completely vanished.
Sound returned to normal, any trace of visual alteration went as well. Whilst I could tell I was still slightly 'mushy' if you will, the major factors of the acid subsided.
From this point we walked out of the Casino and made it to the car a few streets away and left abruptly. When we got to the car it was jump in, lock doors, hug each other yada yada, be relieved etc.
Driving down the freeway, about 5 minutes away from Crown when we both were just going on and on about feeling safe and how relieved we were, I felt my body relax and then *bang* the trip hit back in. I thought id just railed half a gram of md or something the speed at which it just came slamming back home...
Either way... I never thought anything could cut through a trip like that... or is this really an indication/experience with how deep the abilities of the human body can really run ?
Your thoughts

I had a similar sort of thing happen to me at hijinx' party...I was just coming up and we had disappeared into our room for some quiet when there wa sa knock on the door, right as i was startign to peak relaly hard....We had to jump up and calm the savage house mate, and when i stopped 10 mins later after i had calmed thigns down i realised i felt completly straight. I didnt peak again, but i was kinda pissed how it just disappeared like that...

This has happened to both Mr Samadhi and myself on a few occasions. I totally believe that it is a case of mind over matter - ie, one night, myself, mr s and a non BL friend were rolling at home, when all of a sudden there was this almighty SMASH down the road. We ran outside and down the street and were confronted with a really nasty car accident. There were people already on the scene, 000 had been called, but we were walking from person to person to see if everyone was ok, or if they wanted blankets, or sweet hot tea, etc. Suddenly i realised that i wasn't rolling anymore, i was completely clear. When it had been ascertained that all was ok, we walked back to the apartment. As soon as we all sat down, *BANG* the pills hit us harder than before...I would definitely say that the adrenaline rush we got from the scene of the accident had alot to do with not feeling the pills.
I believe that the same thing happened to you...you saw the fear in your girly's eyes, you had a huge adrenaline rush, and you did what you had to do to keep RachL and yourself out of harms way.
Anyway, i totally concurr with you regarding the human body/mind and the way defense mechanisms work...you could also relate it to when people suddenly have a burst of "super human strength" ie, if a loved one is pinned under a car or something to that effect.
The body and mind are truly amazing contraptions, aren't they?? :D

One time I was drunk getting a ride hoe from a bar-course. We had a crash(no, the driver wasn't drunk) and I wasn't drunk anymore. Too much adrenalin. When I got home and could finally relax...the alchohol kicked back in.
Adrenalin overrides any other drug. It's the most primal thing in the world. It's job is to stop you from dying, so I think it's designed to work in whatever state you in.
If you ever feel like you are going to puke(beer, weed, dxm ect) have a nang. Half the time the adrenalin rush from the nitrous is enough to stop you feeling sick. Unfortunately most of the time it's only short acting.

Many of these more instinctual reactions, fight or flight, breathing and other autonomic functions originate in the brain stem, which is in fact the oldest component of the human brain. It's mainly the frontal lobe which developed and grew slightly later on which is responsible for more conceptual thinking eg. language(which is estimated to have been in use for only the last 200 or so thousand years), mathematics, religion and the like. The highly developed frontal lobes that we as humans possess is common only to us, there are some exceptions with chimps but nonetheless they don't compare.
Man's been evolving for over a million years and it's been only the last few 100 thousand years that our brains have developed to the complexity that they have, ie. frontal lobe, cerebral cortex, parietal lobe and so on and so forth. My point is that we can use drugs and alter our perception through this or that part of our a finely tuned brains but it's going to take a lot more to override basic functions which are common to every mammal on the planet and have been so for millions years. Survival is imperative and I doubt there's much getting around the prehistoric brain functions which serve this end.
