I searched FF, and learned that BL doesn't really love the group. Have you heard 2011's "Helplessness Blues"? If you haven't listened to it, take a gander. Let me know what you think... <3

Good thread idea :)
I've been listening to it on and off for the past couple of weeks.
Haven't gotten "deep" into it. And I'm hoping that I can.
I hope it doesn't turn into the first album for me. Which was just kinda "I like it, but I don't love it/ It can be on and I'll enjoy, but there are no songs I crave, though I did have a small affair with Winter Hymn."

I wish they went rockier from time to time.

I love the instrumentation, harmonies, and songwriting.
They remind me a lot of crosby, stills, nash, and young.

I bought their Sun Giant EP the day it was released a couple of years back now :)

Similar to Laika, I think their sound gets a little monotonous after a while. it would be nice to hear some more uptempo stuff from them.

Yet to listen to their new stuff, will have to get onto it and report back here :D

Love 'em. Really like the new album, even if the songs aren't as catchy as on their self-titled release. It's much stronger musically.

I agree... last night I listened to the new album-- tonight (ie, right now) their eponymous album. This one is much more upbeat and catchy. For this reason, I bet even less people on BL enjoy it...

Not sure what it is, but I really love all of their stuff. Guess it's either a love it or hate it type of thing...

I posted in the last Fleet Foxes thread a couple weeks ago, but got no replies. Moving my post to a new home...

I've been a fan since their self-titled debut, but this album is simply stunning. The band can be an acquired taste for some but I implore all fans of this kind of music to take a few extra listens...it's beautiful.

Someone described the intro song as intoxicatingly heartwarming, which I think perfectly captures the feel.

Montezuma (track 1)

Helplessness Blues (title track)

Grown Ocean (closing track with video)

I was pretty much hooked at, 'So now, I'm am older, than my mother and father, when they had their daughter-- now what does that say about me?'

Pretty poignant for somebody like me-- somebody that is now 7 years older than my parents when they had me-- and I'm only 25; how the hell did they make it work like they did at that age? I'm still an immature little shit at 25!

Anyway, that's the sort of thing that makes these guys a favorite.

Saw these guys a couple nights ago at an outdoor theater in Berkeley...great live show! :)

Tiger Mountain Peasant Song is not only the most sincere of their work but the most affective, chilling, and poignant - rarely has the essence of depravity, disease, and hopelessness been captured so well by such a simple melody... it's truly a beautiful piece of music that far outclasses anything else they've made for me, which have a very generic 60s folk sound for the most part IMO. But that piece of music is truly unique and poetic.

Their's is a mature sound. I've thought so since day one. I listened continuously when their EP and full length came and dubbed them my favorite band for a short time. I saw them live on 2008 and that was around their peak, I believe -- the new album is nothing short of great music though it doesn't particularly touch me in the same way. Grown Ocean is a fantastic song, I'm thinking I'm going to put the new album on rotation and really try to get into it. I think these days with all of the instant access to music and the influx of bands it has been hard for me to really listen and really focus on any particular album. I sold my mp3 player and reverted back to burning CDs and having only that CD in my car's player and really letting it soak in. I did so with Girls' new album. I'm not so sure that I would have really listened as intently if I'd had the opportunity to seek something else at whim.
