I always here people ask questions about "acid flashbacks", and most people who know what they're talking about reply that flashbacks are just the brain's response to a traumatic experience or something similar.
My question is that if flashbacks are caused by this, why don't people ever complain about flashbacks from hallucinogens such as mushrooms or mescaline? Anyone know someone who has experienced a "flashback" from these or other drugs?
Any info on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

well i've done a shit load of LSD and i've never had a flashback, i believe that a lot of experiences can be chalked up to bullshit and the others as just an emotional experience. I do believe that flashbacks are real, just not many of the experiences you hear. Also i'm sure they can occur in situations of mushrooms especially, the user just doesn't recognize them or for some reason you just don't hear about them very much, i don't know that's just my opinion

From what I understand, most flashbacks are a form of post traumatic stress disorder, meaning they are much more likely from really intense bad trips. Mescaline is less likely to cause a bad trip, and LSD is used much more than mescaline and shrooms, anyway. I've heard of flashbacks from K, as well. Either that, or I'm just dumb.

Hmm. I have a friend who does shrooms but not LSD because he's afraid of the flashbacks... I'll have to tell him this.

flashbacks are very rare. tell your friend not to worry.
yeah flashbacks are posible from ketamine.

Half of it is probably a placebo type thing. People think they're going to have acid flashbacks, so they do. They don't think they're going to have mushroom flashbacks, so they don't. I really don't think there's that much difference in the flashback potential of both. Never gotten a flashback myself anyways.

I have had body flashbacks from foxy. They last aweek or so, strong. I have the sensation that my hands are wet after holding a paper cup or that I am sweaty after standing by a window. They are full on sensation hallucinations, if that makes sense. I have had to ask my friends what is real and what is not. It's not unpleasent though and only lasts a matter of seconds. They vary. I've had a few acid flashbacks also... I was doing a geology graph a few months ago and after looking at the black and white lines for a few seconds, I looked up and the entire room was decorated with acid patterns...flowing everywhere. I wasn't really aware of anything else at that point. That lasted about 5 or 10 seconds and then I was able to shake it away. I've never experienced any really intense flachbacks like I have heard some people say they have. The kind where you trip for hours and run from cops and the whole ordeal ends in suicide to escape the voices. I think that is a litttle extreme/exagerated though.

The reason may be that I couldn't tell you generally what the flashback was of. I just say 'I had a flashback'. I don't specify a drug. I've had some that felt like shrooms, some like acid, some like mesc, and some like E.

Not fair, I haven't gotten to have a flashback

Flash backs sound like a great way to save a buck...
I'm all for them!

i think we're using the word flashback to describe a lot of different things that can happen while sober. much like the other person described what happens to him after taking foxy, you're brain remembers everything that happens to it. just like you remember what it feels like to burn your finger, or how it feels to get a haircut, or how it feels when you rub your arm when you're rolling, what you see when you're tripping and what you feel etc. therefore you can recall these memories and sometimes it happens subconsciencely. for instance if i think about past times when i've rolled i'll start getting warm sensations running down my extremeities, like the feeling of warm blood running through my viens. i dont think these are any different then the types of things that can happen when your brain remembers what its like on the said drug.

Go to erowid and do some reading. If you look there will be an interesting paper called "The phenomeology of lsd flashbacks". Any tramatic event in a humans life can cause a flashback, liks a post traumatic stress disorder. But the more common lsd phenomona should not really be called flashbacks but more of a persistence of a trip. Gently moving patterns, trailers, mild closed eye visuals, negative and positive after images and a whole lot of other phenomena. About 15% of user will get something simmilar to those. People having traumatic emotional flashbacks is quite a bit rarer and not something i would worry about. Unless you have a lengendary bad trip or a pre-existing, or latent mental condition. Not something to worry about. Hope this helps
