A fish out of water,
Whose silvery scales glisten with every movement,
Flops and twitches,
Searching for water;
Gasps and gapes its mouth,
Searching for breath.
Adrenaline rushing in the struggle,
Heart pumping and
Eyes flailing;
Gills constricting and
Fins twitching.
All it needs is water, but
Every flop takes it farther away.
And so it dies,
Slowly and painfully;
Twitching and flopping less and less,
Adrenaline and heart slowing,
Eyes only blinking, not flailing,
Its mouth and gills wide open for one last hope of life.
Finally it lays still and seems colder than before.
Do you ever feel like a fish out of water?
Do you ever feel like you need something to survive,
But with every reach you're farther away than you were before?
Do you ever feel like you're colder once you realize you can't have it?
