First time trying MDMA (please give advice)

Hey, it's my first time on this website so if I do anything wrong please tell me.

So I'm planning on taking MDMA in December for a concert/rave I'm going to. I've done quite a bit of research on it but I would really appreciate advice from you all.

I've tried weed before but nothing stronger. I think MDMA would suit the event perfectly (the band playing were heavily influenced by it in the 80s/90s). In case you're wondering, yes the venue is air-conditioned and I think you can ask for water at a bar there, so heatstroke might not be a problem. I'll also be taking breaks in between songs as well to reduce the heat.
In order for me to be more prepared for the experience I've decided to take some MDMA soon (probably next week) just to test it out. I'll be doing it with a friend who has previous experience with it. Here are the doses and supplements I'll be taking with each:

- 130 mg for my first time, which according to an online calculator (mollymeasure.com) is right for my weight (I weigh about 80kg) and the fact it's my first time. I might increase that to 160 mg on my second time (the actual concert) if the first time goes well.

- The first time I don't think I'll need much water since I won't be active (probably just listening to music, chilling, eating etc.). But for the actual concert I'll drink 0.5 to 1 litre of water per hour (about 2 or 3 cups an hour). Some from my own bottle and some from the bar. Obviously I won't go too above this in case it causes Hyponatremia.

- Both times I'll take 5-HTP to combat the comedown. This'll be a 100-200 mg dose 24 hours before taking the mdma, 1 after the comedown and 1 everyday for the next few days. I'm not very experienced with taking these supplements so some advice would be appreciated, especially on the dosage.

- Both times I'll take Grape seed extract to combat neurotoxicity. I know a lot of people don't bother with this if they take MDMA rarely, but I'd want to get into a good habit of taking anti-oxidants in case I start doing MDMA regularly. This would be a single 100 mg dose taken alongside the MDMA. Once again, some help with this would be appreciated since I'm not sure that's the best dosage and time to take it.

- Both time I'll have gum and magnesium supplements to combat the teeth grinding. The magnesium supplements would be a 1000 mg dose, or 100 mg if it's "elemental" magnesium (whatever the hell that even means. pls HELP), taken 6 hours before, 1 hour before and during the experience. I'm also a little confused about this one so help is appreciated.

And of course the substances will be tested by my friend. He has had past experience testing his stuff and almost always has clean stuff anyway. Also, I'll be taking it in crystal form if that changes anything. In case I'm prescribed adderal by the time I try MDMA (which is a possibility), I'll just skip my adderal dose that day to stop weird stuff from happening (I heard it can cause a different roll than normal).

So any advice, help or extra stuff I missed? Thank you very much!

Hmm, your plan is fine. I've tried eating salty snacks while rolling, and holy shiz the lack of saliva build up makes it impossible to swallow without following it with some liquid. But iced tea is good if you like those types of drinks.

Oh, and you should probably take an allergy dose if it's your first time, just to make sure. I didn't, lol, but you know how it is. I would have if I hadn't been 21. Damn how times have changed...

Same here. It seems like the people who are the most serious about having fun with substances are also the most careful. My friend ALWAYS tests every substances he gets. He even checks for mold in his weed, lol. People can be "paranoid" in a good way. :)

I've tried the addy+mdma combination, but I really didn't find it much different from mdma alone. So it might be good to just save the addy for later. It's hard for me to gauge though because I always mix weed with literally everything I've ever tried. It's always a good icebreaker to just socialize while packing, rolling up, or hitting some weed. I think that's one of the main reasons why people combine them IRL, imo. It's definitely not everyone's cup of tea, so idk if that would be good advice or not. But as it is, your plan is good. :)

Like Kl519 said, your plan is very well thought out and pre and post supplements sound right. I know for me eating while rolling never happens, tried it once and food didn't taste the same, neither did all the drinks I tried, water tasted great though. Make sure not to eat anything within a couple hours of rolling, when I do that it takes even longer to hit, I usually eat a light lunch around noon and then take first one around 5 or 6. Enjoy the experience.

Mate u are more prepared than Ive ever been...

Mkae sure u have got good beans...

If they are get ready for the best feeling u have ever had

you could probably do without the 5-htp. I've done with and without and not noticed much difference. Never really had a bad comedown from MDMA though. You seem to have all the basics covered.

Only thing I can suggest is buying a test kit and testing what you have.

I don't know much about the magnesium but I knew a girl who swears that "regular" magnesium will not help and you need to use the "elemental magnesium". I don't think it is easily sourced at local grocers and what not, but I never looked that hard.

I would almost not take your first dose until the concert..... Unless you are doing it awfully soon and the rave is at the end of december.

If you plan on redosing -- pre measure about half of original dose and have it set aside / capsuled prior to event.

All in all you do seem to have done your homework and I wish you the best of times. Stay safe and roll hard!

you seem to be prepared pretty well. almost to the point of overthinking it ;)

for the dose, i wouldn't go to 160mg (talking about doses of pure mdma). 160mg would be the maximal dose for your weight. you would rather need doses on the lower end of the normal dosage range the first few times. 100-130mg is fine and should be for a while if you don't overdo it.

don't take 5-htp just because. it's doubtful if there is a lack of serotonin (receptor downregulation is a much more likely cause for any post-mdma depression — and in that case having more serotonin in your brain is detrimental rather than helpful) in the first place. it's also doubtful if enough 5-htp makes it to the brain to have an effect. another point is that most people have an afterglow rather than an unpleasant comedown the first few times. some people never get depression from mdma at all with responsible use.
don't take a medication that has its own side effects and dangers when you don't need it. i've seen a thread here on bluelight where someone had a "bad comedown" that pretty much cleared up when the person stopped taking the 5-htp he took to prophylactically prevent any comedown.

another thing to consider before using supplements is that excessive amounts of magnesium will give you diharrea. i don't know how large that amount is, but again: if you're one of those people who don't get a side effect to the extent that it bothers them, then it's pointless to take a medicine to combat the side effect. anything that has an effect also has side effects. so if it's not really needed you risk getting more side effects than if you didn't take anything but the mdma itself.
elemental magnesium is a highly flammable metal and reacts violently with (stomach) acid, forming lots of hydrogen gas. so if any supplement says it contains elemental magnesium i'd rather avoid it because they probably have no idea what they have put inside those pills (i'm not pessimistic enought to think that they would put actual elemental magnesium inside).

The risk of neurotoxicity has been greatly exaggerated, of course, but if you would like to pre-load with something, I still recommend simple vitamin C and vitamin E.

Both are well tolerated, there's every reason to expect them to be effective, they're cheap, and they're produced in a very pure form with known potency.

Of course, the most important thing when it comes to avoiding harm from drug use is always to limit your usage, both in terms of frequency and the dosage taken.

Your plan to try it first with 130 mg seems very reasonable and prudent to me. From there, you can decide if going up to 160 might be too much for your tastes. (Then again, it might be just where you want to go; people vary in how strongly they react to the drug.)

it's doubtful if there is a lack of serotonin (receptor downregulation is a much more likely cause for any post-mdmc depression

Indeed.

and in that case having more serotonin in your brain is detrimental rather than helpful) in the first place.

The potential benefit is that by elevating serotonin levels you are able to able to get closer to a normal level of serotonin receptor activation in spite of receptor down regulation. Since down regulation is presumably directly tied to over-activation of those receptors in the first place, elevating serotonin levels will not necessarily cause further down regulation. That said, it might delay recovery slightly, but I would still recommend it as a treatment of any temporary anxiety or depressive feelings a person has during the days after using MDMA.

That being said, if you are getting depressed after using MDMA, you should probably take a nice long break from the drug.

it's also doubtful if enough 5-htp makes it to the brain to have an effect.

I wondered this myself, so I did what irresponsible curious people do and tried a quite large dose of 5-HTP just by itself. It produced an obvious alteration of mood/mental state (a slightly floaty semi-intoxication.)

It also produced SEVERE gastric distress.

The experience left me convinced of two things: 5-HTP can effectively raise brain serotonin levels...and I have questionable judgement. 8)

Thank you very much!
Now that I think about it, my friend hardly ever takes supplements. He might have some gum but that's about it. So maybe I am making too much of a big deal out of it. I'll see how my first experience (hopefully this Friday) goes before trying it out with magnesium and 5-HTP. I'll also take the MDMA at 120 mg first and if it goes fine increase it to 140 mg or slightly less for the event depending on how comfortable I was with it.

Thank you very much! But do you mean I should take Vitamin C and E or Vitamin C or E? And if I take both would that be double the dose or half-and-half? Sorry if I seem paranoid.
I only really decided on grape seed extract as opposed to vitamins because the dosage seemed simpler but I heard it can have weird side effects on your stomach if you take too much (the stuff is pretty strong apparently). So taking vitamins might be better in the long run. There's a cute girl at the rave and I don't wanna shit myself in front of her.

I don't think it would hurt getting vitamin c and e. You are best off getting your vitamins through healthy eating though, not so much from supplements.

The only other thing I would advise is to eat well, and exercise before and after. But that is just a general life tip.

Like an above poster said you may be overthinking things.

Buy the ticket, take the ride. Enjoy!

First off, you're going to need water, no matter what. Like all amphetamines, MDMA will dehydrate you no matter if you're sleeping or rock-climbing, so drink more than you feel you need to, but not too much. Just make sure you're not going thirsty before going out of range of water. You'll thank yourself later.

5-HTP is good for rebounding from low serotonin levels, but I'd reccomend if you have the supply to dose regularly, as it will both potentiate the enactogenic and euphoric effects of the MDMA, as well as offer a much quicker rebound from the comedown, as you have a high level already in circulation. If you only have a little, do what you originally said.

As for the adderall, if you do get it prescribed, it would be advisable to skip the dose, or better yet, don't take it until after. The lack of a daily dose, which is almost necessary for doing the MDMA, could be a hard job if you are already taking it daily, causing lethargy and lack of motivation. I'd say if you get it, wait until after the MDMA experience to dose, since dosing on the day will likely give more teeth grinding, dehydration, stimulation, and also cause a raise in blood pressure. It's safer just to skip it, and it will probably give a better experience overall, including come-down. You could, though, use it the day after you use the MDMA, as adderall has no noticeable impacts on serotonin, so it will revitalize you and not cause any further serotonin depletion, allowing your serotonin levels to rise as they would naturally.

Hope I helped :)

Vitamin C and E complement each other; C is water-soluable while E is more fat-soluble. The health food industry loves to hype 'exotic' stuff, but at least for our purposes things like grape seed extract is just another anti-oxident; there's nothing special about it, no reason to think it's any better than the cheaper, more readily available traditional options.

Dosage is something that I don't have a solid answer for; there just isn't any real data to go by. Personally I went with 2-4 pills of each (C and E) several hours before and again after coming down.

The good news is that there's no reason to think preloading with antioxidants is at all needed anyway for a normally nourished person who's using in moderation, so I wouldn't stress out about 'getting it right'. (After all, even heavy users aren't showing the sorts of damage that they produced in lab animals.)

On the other hand, it's a very cheap and easy way to perhaps give your brain a bit more cushion against the stress of the drug (and it does stress you, in mind and body.)

The most important thing (by far) for protecting your long term health and happiness is just to use in moderation. Don't keep gobbling pills all night because you don't want to come down, and don't be tempted into using every weekend. Try to stick to one sane dose in an evening and a month between those evenings and you should be fine.
