i have been on and off painkillers for a number of years and every time i have come off it has been verydifferent.. the very first time i tried i was only on a few perc for 3 months straight and a doc put me on four 8 mg subs a day, after about a year n a half i decided to come off them and antidepressant meds at the same time, so truth is i dont know what was worse, but i do know it took at least 3 weeks for me to start to see the the light, and 3 months before i felt 100% like myself..so hear we are 10 years later, after getting so sick on subs the first time i swore id never take them again.every time i would get high off pills id usta wean down and deal with it. after a few days id be ok..so this time for a few reasons, i was on roxys for about 4-5 months, i had a hard time weaning down so i decided to get a few 2mg sub strips from a friend and try to do a quick detox..i waited 14 hours after my last roxy and starting going out of my mind, so i took 4mg of subs and actually got high and felt fine. i made it threw the rest of the day and night n felt pretty good, even went for a walk..i drank so calming tea n slept a full 8 hours.. i took 3mg of subs around 9am and just slept most of the day, then went for a walk and feel pretty good..its been almost 48 hours since my last roxy...so i guess my question is i dont know where to go from here??? i know i dont want to be on subs for a long time cause i know the wd is worse than percs n roxys (for me at least) how long should i stay on the subs and how should i wean off? i am so scared its not even funny cause i know how bad it can get. i have spoke with a few people who have done a detox and all say that no matter what or how much your on they do a 3-5 day tapper of sub?? please any help or advise would be great.. im also looking at going to na meetings and seeing someone who specializes in drug abuse as well..thank you for listening...

The nuts and bolts of tapering are discussed a great deal in Other Drugs--you may find your answer there.

But I can tell you that I have found NA/AA to be extremely important as it provides peer support. Every relapse I've ever had has be predated by a lack of attendance in NA.

Neurochemistry is a huge factor in succeeding in staying off the pain killers. You have to know that there are predictable timetables and outcomes and things you can do to make the situation better.

Exercise....huge and will produce endorphins that will help stabilize your neurochemistry. When you take painkillers for a long period of time, your brain stops making its own chemicals because it is used to them being introduced from your taking of the pills. Now that that is gone the brain has to restart its production of things like serotonin and dopamine.

Time...yes it sounds like it will never end, but understand that research shows that it is generally taking ~4 months for the neurochemistry to normalize, you need to build a support system in a sober lifestyle. Friends, support meetings and such are crucial to developing a realistic existence as a sober person.

Medicine....you may need to be put on an antidepressant or take anti-anxiety medications. See a doctor, be honest and go from there...

good luck

thank you very much. im very new to this and it truly is a big help to have people like yourself's...thank you

Not only is it illegal for you to take Suboxone from a friend, it works best when taken under the care of a physician. Don't torture yourself through a rapid detox without medical supervision if it isn't necessary.

www.suboxone.com for a doctor in your area

thank you for your advise, its not that i dont agree with you about the doctors, but i had a few bad ones so i dont trust them..

from reading your origanal post, imo you can just kick w/o anything, take hot showers dring lots of fluids and just suffer a little,it won't last very long, only saying this because if you always look for a comfortable fix when detoxing, chances are you will just keep on using, eventually,i used opiates for over 35yrs and now i'm on sub for over 4yrs now,i am very happy, finally but look at the cost, another opiate most likely for the rest of my life,i could get off i'm sure but have no desire to i'm 54 now and just except the fact i need to be medicated,it doesn't have to be that way for you, your young, just stop, check out aa and na and just use the tools that will work best for you,jmo thanks

anthony1958- thank you for your reply, i have felt the same way that im only a few days aways from the worse, i had posted the same thing on another page and some kid scared the shit out of me by saying "4mg of sub is WAY more than what you were doing so its going to be harder to get off the sub than the roxy" since i have weaned down from 4mg to 2mg every 24 hours i have def felt like i have been dealing with slight detoxes. im planning on going from 2mg to 1mg for a day or 2 then drop to .5 or even .25 and with in 7 days be off..do you think thats too much?? and ps, its never too late to get off any medicine.. i had a friend who was on a shit ton on pain pills and methadone at the same time for a looong time, when he went into rehab and detox the detox place wanted him to sue the doc who put him on all the med cause they said they have never seen anyone on that much pankillers and meth, but he actually made it and got off everything, so there is always hope..i dont know who you are, but i can tell your a good person with a big heart, or else you wouldn't have responded..thank you
