O
sounds good to me. I've been on codeine for years, codeine linctus is still sold over the counter in the 200 ml size at a few independent chemists.. a few of us go on 'codeine runs',on a rota system for it...the 200ml bottle contains 600mg codeine & syrup.
Ilove codeine, the only gripe is the duration of the buzz. shame I don't have access to some hydro or oxy.
Right enough, 600mg per bottle, strongest over the counter opioid available.
As for "loving" codeine, I am afraid that I find it so weak that I would require more than a gram to really feel anything worth writing home about. If worth that.
Funnily enough there are two other antitussive mixtures which, although weaker in terms of the actual opiate contained, I prefer for a "recreational" purpose, and they are
GEE'S LINCTUS (opium) and
J COLLIS BROWNE'S MIXTURE (morphine HCl).
Calling at every pharmacy between Inverness and Aberdeen for two bottles of Gee's from each yields a good evening for two.
What I would like to know is what can be done with codeine linctus on a kitchen chemistry basis to produce a stronger and more pleasant opioid? I mean I am familiar with the route from codeine base right through to oxymorphone but that requires University Lab time and equipment and several other chems, some exceedingly volatile too.
Anyone had any experience playing with any of these mixtures and linctuses? If so what was the end result and how much was it worth the time and trouble and whatever extras you need to carry out any reactions required? I am intrigued by the possibilities of whatever can be synthesised from a large amount of Gee's in particular; there's a lovely warmth from drinking 400mL + which codeine can not ever replicate at the linctus or any other strength, and neither dihydrocodeine nor dihydrocodeineone mixtures (latter aka hydrocodone) are available in Europe any longer since withdrawal of DICODID in 2008 - just looking for a bit of lateral thinking from somebody here that may encourage me to experiment a little with these OTC wonders.
By the way, oxycodone base is an intermediate in the codeine to oxymorphone synthesis if you are looking to make any of that and then make the HCl salt but conversion into oxymorphone gives a yield of 63% of the oxycodone base used and a NINEFOLD increase in potency, so I wouldn't think of stopping at oxycodone unless there was a good reason for that!

I don't know the precise make up of codeine linctus so can not comment on how best to precipitate codeine base from it, but I am sûre someone can tell us!
