Fired from pain management and don't know what to do.

I have been to a few pain management doctors in the last 7 years. I was finally diagnosed with Chronic Pain, Fibromyalgia and about 20 other problems, mainly in the my joints and have severe muscle cramps/spasms. One quit and the other one quit on me when I had to call her at home because it was a weekend and the pharmacy wouldn't fill my new prescription. I had just started seeing her and it was a Friday. I guess I should have read the rules closer that she was not to be contacted at home but anyway, I found another pain management doctor in a small town that is closer. I just received a letter of dismissal and am not sure exactly why. The receptionist is kind of bossy and when I try to set up appointments, she tells me when I can be seen instead of working with me to set up a time that works for both me and the doctor. I have had an exceptional relationship with my doctor until now. I still have an appt set up for Friday and am having my family help convince him not to quit treating me with narcotics. I cannot function without them because of the pain I suffer from. My life will consist of either sitting, laying on the couch or in bed because of the pain.I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how I can convince him to keep treating me. My daughter is going to my appointment with me because I do part time daycare for her which is why some of the appt times would not work for me. My son and husband are both going to write letters for me to take to the doctor. What else do you think I should/could do to convince him to continue to treat me. I take 8 oxycodone per day. I want to be able to continue to help my daughter with her children mainly because I enjoy it so much but will not be able to if I am not in pain. Any suggestion would be more than welcome. Thanks in advance, Hatzy

Hey Hatzy, welcome to Bluelight :)

The world is changing for all prescribed opiod users, I'm afraid. It's a real shame since genuine chronic pain users are caught with the tide of the current "drug war" even though you are a legitimately prescribed patient.

That having been said, I'm afraid it's against the BLUA for us to give any advice as to how to acquire drugs including influencing doctors to prescribe them. The best I can say is be honest, don't push too hard and look for a compassionate healthcare giver. I sincerely wish you good luck!

Thank you for getting back to me. I guess I was trying to ask how to convince my dr not to drop me and any suggestions that might help my case or isn't that allowed. I am new to this site. I guess I don't know all the rules. Would it be wrong to ask how to try to convince my dr not to drop me and not mention any of the drugs?
Thanks,
Pam

Hi Hatzy,

Try posting your questions in one of the following BL forums: Other Drugs, The Dark Side, Sober Living or Healthy Living.

To keep your post from getting deleted or edited, stick to describing your situation: what happened with the doctor, what drugs you've been using, what meds you've been using, etc.

Then perhaps state what your goals are (for instance, not getting kicked out of pain management could be a goal) and state those.

Then try asking questions, like how you can go about accomplishing your goals or how others have tried to deal with similar ones.

As W_R stated, BL can't support you in doing anything illegal vis a vis your doctor, but we may be able to help offer suggestions on how to deal with your specific situation.

Best of wishes and welcome to BL!
