Films About 9/11 (Flight 93 trailer released, see p. 2)

I can't wait to see Jude Law play Osama bin Laden. Katie Holmes could be his Burqa clad love interest, she has a thing for religious weirdos.

While i think it's sickening that HR didn't make half of what a film by Moore made, i will say this left in Stone's defense.

You're right. 9/11 is heard about all over the word. Day in and day out. In political campaign ads, everything today is referred to as "x in a post 9/11 era", you rarely talk politics or Iraq without bringing it up. It's been so overly used, i think the term itself has become a bit dehumanized. No one really focuses on the tragedy itself, the pain or the struggle people went through at that site. If anything, a film about it, could add some heart back into the term.

they could make a movie about the tens of thousands of innocent lives lost from the Iraqi war.

but no one would pay to see it.

IMO, I think releasing these films so early will upset more people than it will please and it is definately only trying to make a buck.

does anyone here that was directly affected by tragedy in 911 think it's a good idea to make this movie, are you upset by it and the way people will be portrayed in it?

i'm sure like every crowd there will be those who are accepting of it and those who are not. To label any group as having one homogenous voice, is kinda of a crappy way to approach things.

Oh...and i'd pay to see a movie about the innocent iraqi lives lost just as fast as i would to see one about 9/11. :\

i have no problem with the films being made, except those that will amount to nothing more than patriotic propaganda, ala pearl harbour.

The 9/11 special that those two French filmmakers did a two or three years ago was very moving. It was the documentary that contained the only known footage of the first plane hitting the WTC as well as dramatic scenes from inside the buildings. That said, I'm not sure that historical reenactments/dramatizations, like those contained in a Nicholas Cage movie, will have the same affect and sensitivities as a documentary.

I can easily see the movie masses going to see 9/11 films, as it was such a defining and notorious moment in American history, and I'm sure these movies will make a lot of money. But something, at least subconsciously, is going to be slightly sickening for me watching a reenactment of such tragic proximately-located events. Blackhawk Down, Schindler's List, and Hotel Rawanda also depict tragedy, though these events are no where near as immediate. It will be interesting to see how the public reacts to something so close.

a brilliant music video (i forgot to mention earlier) for chris korda's "i like to watch".

musically speaking it's not the best synth pop track i've heard but 5 stars for social commentary. download the lyrics too.

souny: what did you think of turtles can fly? i saw it at a film festival (melbourne), and i believe it won the top film award. i wasn't *so* enamoured (the field was pretty good, and i saw about 90 films), but i still thought it was brilliant.

yeah, it suddenly occurred to me that you already started a thread on this subject. i sort of butchered the title of the original thread, so feel free to change to something else. :)

That's one of the most fucking offensive things I've ever seen. Images of some guy jerking off to the death of thousands of innocent people... that's horrendous. Jesus, that's so disgusting it's hard to even put into words.

Agreed, that documentary is the definitive piece of film for 9/11, but I'm willing to see what Stone and others will have to say.

I agree. And I think enough time has passed now.
