Brilliant! The Comedian looks great. Even Nite Owl looks good -- I'm willing to forget the Batman resemblance.

I'm now officially very excited.

This movie will either rock all of our collective faces off or fall completely flat. There just can't be a middle ground with something as massive as Watchmen. I am really hoping that the movie does justice to the dark tone and philosophical themes of the book, and relates them in a way the regular person will be affected by. That's what made the book so explosive, and if the movie catches even 1/4 of that it'll be the end all be all comic book movie to me.

And, this is what I currently have to say about Watchmen:

Updates!

Here's a link to the official site, where you can watch the first of twelve video blogs that chronicle the making of the movie. This first one shows some of actual sets that they're either currently building or have already completed. You get to see parts of Dr. Manhattan's lab, his apartment, Rorschach's prison, Karnak (Ozymandias' Antarctic lair), among other locales.

And here you can see some shots of the New York street sets, and in this particular blog that I linked to, the blogger places side-by-side comparisons of the comic and the images from the film. Awesome!

EDIT: Okay, I'm lame -- so L2R already posted the video blog.
But still, if you missed it, this serves as a reminder to SEE IT NOW. :)

A couple of new "Watchmen" updates have arrived with AICN posting a photo of the 1940's Minutemen in the project.

The characters are the original 'Watchmen' in the 1980's set tale and are seen in photo (and possibly flashback). They include Silk Spectre, Nite Owl, Captain Metropolis, Mothman, Silhouette, The Comedian, Dollar Bill and Hooded Justice.

Meanwhile The New York Times reports that the animated side story "Tales of the Black Freighter" will not be released concurrently with the "Watchmen" DVD, but rather as its own DVD release just five days after the movie hits theaters on March 6th 2009.

The disc also includes a documentary-style film called "Under the Hood" that will delve into the characters' backstories. Also the studio plans a dozen 22-26 minute Webisodes in the build-up to "Watchmen". Snyder says in the article that "Watchmen", which he's currently editing, is nearing three hours in length and intends to fight to keep as much as possible in the film.

"Watchmen" will hit disc sometime in the early Fall, and an 'Ultimate Edition' with both "Watchmen" and 'Tales' edited into one large movie will hit probably in early 2010.

holy shit that's gotta be the most awesome trailer i've seen in years.

worth the download wait. wow! omgomgomgomg wow

that trailer was epic, it won't load but I know I saw it before I saw Batman. they seemed to show too much Dr. Manhattan, however.

Alan Moore, as ingenious as he is, is a whiney prick. I like how Entertainment Weekly compared him as the modern day Orson Welles - because he is simply just that. he claims that none of his movies were adapted correctly, and though I think From Hell might have been lacking I also think that V for Vendetta was a prime adaptation. and Moore trashed V because of the most banal, contrived aspects. things like coming up with some cutesy name for breakfast or for altering what he called the federal post office's title.

you might be a genius but please get over yourself. I truly only like to listen to you when you are writing the script for a comic book.

Ok... that was a fairly impressive trailer!

(thanks for posting and thanks to IP for letting me know about it)

Regarding Alan Moore, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was very badly handled IMO. I can imagine how disappointing it must have been for him.

i don't know how many times i looked at that trailer today. every time i get goosebumps.

The trailer...wow. The sets, the costumes, everything...it looks so perfect.

I think I cummed several thousand times during the trailer. Holy shit!

That trailer was amazing. I'm really glad they decided to premiere it before 'The Dark Knight'.

I also appreciate the Smashing Pumpkins song that was used in it. Perfect for the preview ;)

I hope Snyder manages to keep as much of the film intact as he wants to.

I would not mind a three hour film. He honestly seems like a die-hard fan of the graphic novel, and wants it to be as true to the original work as possible. I totally respect that. It almost seems like he really wants to prove to Alan Moore that Watchmen can be made properly. Man, I hope Moore gets off his high horse and actually sees the film, and likes it. That would be rad. At least Dave Gibbons (the artist) is somewhat on-board and optimistic.

I expect nothing short of brilliance from this movie. I hope it lives up to the hype...
