Film: Transamerica

for some unknown reason i waited untill last weekend to check out this movie. anyone else as foolish as me needs to rent this imediately. it's an excellent mixture of comedy and drama and a perfect example of a film that uses a contraversial subgroup of society to illustrate that we're all "weird" in our own way.

transamerica is about a pre-op transexual woman named brie/stanley who learns, 1 week before his/her opperation, that he has a 17 year old son son, toby. brie's therapist- who plays a fantastically hillarious role- insists that she confront this part of her life before she will allow brie's surgery to take place.

most of the film is about the cross-country bonding between brie and toby, and his inevitable discovery that who he thought was a church missionary sent to bail him out of jail is actually his father.

anyhoo i suck @ plot summary. this is an incredible movie, written and portrayed with both a great sense of humor and a ton of heart. i felt like the biggest ass bc i didnt know that the main character was actually a female (apparently she's one of the desperate housewives) so obviously the acting was pretty strong

there's a lotta shite playing in theaters right now....do yourself a favor and check out something that does not suck

I saw this movie in the theatre and it bored me to death. I thought that the edgy plot and scenario would be interesting, but I was wrong. Some might find this entertaining but I thought it was garbage. I won't say anything else because I know that on this website if you say anything negative about any subject that has to do with homosexuality that you're labeled shallow.

This movie just didn't entertain me. Bottom Line. 1 star, only because that's the lowest rating I can give it.

what did this movie have to do w/ homosexuality? well i guess the son is a hustler but that's hardly a gay theme.

Yeah I guess it wasn't really about homosexuality that much. I just thought the movie was boring. The only part I found amusing was the parents reaction to their son. And then to their grandson.

I think i was just cranky this morning, it wasn't too bad. It's, "different".

I gave it a 2.....I thought Felicity Huffman's performace was pretty good....but the storyline and everything else was just a lil too weird and blah....

^ +1, she did great. I didn't even realise it was her 'til i saw her name.
I saw this movie a few months back and thought it kicked ass. I Really enjoyed it and while it might not appeal to some people i found it so interesting and thought provoking and would roccomend it to like minded people. And perfect balance of humour and drama.

I just got around to watching this movie 3 days ago, even though I have had the DVD for over a year.

I was not expecting much from this movie, but figured I would have to give a shot. I am very glad I did. Pity it took me such a long time to sit down and watch.

Felicity Huffman's performance was Oscar worthy without a doubt.

Id give the movie 3.5 stars ... story was kind of a bore, but enough to grab my attention and keep me entertained for an hour and a half.

^I would give it 3.5 too actually. I loved her performance, without it it wouldn't have been quite so good though.
