film: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (remake)

I saw this last night and enjoyed it quite a bit. I never saw the original so it was all new to me. It was definitely gory enough for me. It started off real strong but kind of lost me a bit towards the end. It was worth the trip out to the movies. My wife who isnt a real horror fan enjoyed it as well.

Once again I had the sense to indulge in a little pot and Vicodin immediately before the movie came on and smuggle some beers into the theatre which always helps. THis seems to be key to a cant miss night at the movies.

How much of this story is actually true???? Without spoiling anything for anyone: I thought the ending scene was very suprising. Is it the same in the original???? (the cops)

I agree Lingo. Are they so out of fresh ideas that they feel the need to remake classic movies?. I feel that this remake is going to be disasterous just like the remake of Hitchcock's "Psycho." When did originality become passe?

no its not how the original ends with the cop footage, its loosely I repeat loosely based on a true story, but not the whole chainsaw chasing young adults part, leatherface is inspired by a sick sick man called Ed Gein, Ed though not a true serial killer, he only killed 2 people, was a grave robber, when they finally busted him, they found body parts everywhere around his house, buckets full of ears, fingers toes, heads cut off just hanging around and had a mask of skin he wore as well as a body of skin too. a bit crazy this man was is being to nice some would say. Thats how they get the inspiried by actual events part, they are just playing it up in the movie like all else happened. I think the movie is good, not grand but good, it scared me a few times. and though they call it a remake I wouldn't call it but a different telling from the first one is probably better suited

Well i saw that movie (tcm the new one) and its gay as hell...it really had no story line and it was way to gorey...fuck those movies, seriously people have to have serious problems to even be interested in that shit..late

I saw this 2 days ago. Without seeing the original, one might say that it's an ok horror flick.

I've seen the original. They should have left it alone, if you want to revive it, just show the original in theatres for Halloween.

^^^
Huh say what?

You have a problem with it being gore and think people have to have problems to be interested in it? (the new one)

I never saw the new one, but apparently I heard it left out the dinner scene. If you don't think the dinner scene is worse than any cool special effects gorey-ness than that's just stupid. Her screams of agony and fear, the fucked up family and the old grandpa trying to kill her over a bucket...That dinner scene alone was part of an experiment to show it over and over again to men for weeks on end to see if they became more aggressive. It was one of the most sadistic things of its time, like I said in the other thread. Just becuase something's not gorey doesn't mean its not more fucked up.

I don't understand, or did I just interperate your post wrong?

Saw this the first day it came out and i must say i was pretty impressed...though nothing can compare to the original. A lot of horror flicks that have been coming out recently pretty much have sucked, but this one actually made me jump in two or three spots. I'm glad they didn't completely redo the original...cause i dont think scenes like the dinner scene could ever be the same. The original was more disturbing than scary...where with the new one its wasnt as disturbing IMO...but it def could make ya jump in a few spots. if you like horror flicks id def reccomend seeing it...its worth the money.

**Little Spoilers*****
I saw this yesterday night to cheer myself up (one of those, 'well, my life is sucky right now, but it could be worse' type of things) and I thought that they did pretty well at preserving the terror filled mood throughout the entire movie.

Like the original there were few to no comedic interludes throughout which helped to keep the mood completely suspenseful.

I also found that their use of music (or lack thereof) was appropriate. Like the original the minimal amount of background music really made it seem more realistic. I noticed they did the same thing in the original, kudos for keeping that feature in the remake. **I may be wrong about the lack of music, I was caught up in the film, but I noticed very little background music.

I was scared at several points, and that's saying alot for a horror flick.

All in all a decent film, but nothing can compare to the original (which I'm renting on Thursday if I can find it.) Does anyone know if there are any interesting bonus features on the DVD?

See if you can find any Poppy Z. Brite books. In particular a book she wrote "Exquisite Corpse" - a book about what MIGHT have happened if Jeffrey Dahmer had of escaped from prison.

Poppy Z. Brite is my favorite author(ess?) ever in the history of the world. For those interested in intense horror with incredible characterization and lusher than words can describe (I know that's an oxymoron when talking about books) descriptions of every tiny detail check out her books. Sorry, plug is over now. ;)

As far as the original TCM goes, wow. What a disturbing movie. I loved it, and it was incredibley done. The starkness was apparent in every scene.

Did anyone else notice the almost complete lack of background music? I think this made the entire thing seem more real and suspenseful.

ohhh sorry...spiderman, You kinda took what i said wrong, i was really disturbed by this movie and so i was thinkin jeez if someone was like obsessed with watching it like in a freakish way they may be a little off, they did leave out the dinner scene but seriously i could tell everytime something bad was gonna happen there was really exadurated backround music in the new one, it was F-ed up seriously!

I bought the DVD about a week ago. Mainly because this movie is a classic.
Though I had no idea that they made a new version of it. I can just see them remaking Evil Dead now 8(

I won't complain as long as it had Bruce Campbell in it... Without Bruce I would riot...

It was a disappointing movie. Except for the fact that one could just tune out the crap and watch jessica biel for two hours.

^ WOW I couldn't disagree more. I saw it on Halloween and LOVED it.
I wanna go see it again. My favorite part is when she tries to get help from the two women in the little trailer and OF COURSe they end up being a part of the whole thing...their soft sweet little voices were so creepy..they were like inbreds on drugs, I loved it..especially the big fat lady she was nightmarish. ACK! LOVED IT! =D =D =D

I just wanna say I loved the new movie, it was great, but it doesn't compare to the origional (remakes rarely do).
They did leave out the dinner scene...actually the entire storyline was different. I would not go as far as to say it had no plot. I mean...I liked the plot, it's not deep, it's just a story. It's a slasher type movie, what the hell did you expect?
There was something genuinly more disturbing in the origional...the entire family seemed more evil in the first one, while in the new one they seemed really inbred and messed up. Evil, but not quite as sick as the first one. I definately give the remake two thumbs UP though.
