Legendary director Malick takes on the story of Pocahontis and the english colonisation of the americas. This wonderfully shot period romance displays Malick's artistry with his ability to convey eventful extended periods of time with shots of patience and atmosphere.
Despite being a retelling, it's surprisingly refreshing to see this era displayed with modern film making skills and tools and it leaves one wondering why it took so long to come about.
I'm glad i bought this DVD without even seeing the film first. It's excellent.
My only gripe is the sparing dialogue being too low a volume. I can see how if it had been too loud it could have taken away from the whole, but unfortunately, this film requires the subtitles on.

i havnt seen this but both my (guy) flatmates hated this movie, im guessing its a little soppy?

I really didn't like it. It had vague glimmers of possible excellence, but really sucked. Colin Farrell is somehow just annoying in his role, and the native girl who's in love with him is ten times moreso.

yeah the cover is misleading.

there is some violence in there, but it's far from an action film. Would you consider the thin red line as an action film?

i'll round my 4.5 star rating down to a 4 because the film is not perfect.
