This is a documentary about the suicides on the Golden Gate Bridge, and the descriptions of the victims' lives.

Here is part 1/9
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwsvRgFcFAg

I thought the descriptions of the victims were fascinating; what unique, unfortunate lives.

The wikipedia page about it is also quite interesting.
Apparently, there was roughly one suicide every two weeks during filming.

Sorry if this has been posted before (undoubtedly).

Thanks. I am always looking for new documentaries to watch. I feel like I've browsed Netflix's documentary library a thousand times over and seen the ones that fascinate me at least once.

Speaking of documentaries, if anyone cares to make a suggestion, what are some good ones I should watch? I love anything that deals with psychology, crime, drugs, whatever. I like things that are hard to stomach and depressing =)

^Well, if you like Doc's that are hard to stomach and depressing, then The Bridge is for you. It is very good. Anytime A suicidal thought swims laps in my mind, I think of the Kid in The Bridge who jumped head first, and in mid-air he changed his mind. Somehow he he pulled a 180, and hit the water feet first. And survived. His interview is nothing short of *chilling*

Also, I can't remember the name of the film, but it was a doc about Saddam Hussein, with the torture chamber and utter control of Iraq and all of it's citizens, the tactics he used. And alot of violent un edited footage. That film had me thinking about certain scenes for weeks. Just terrible images burned in my mind.

Thank you. I'm literally crying now listening to the survivor's story. It's beautiful.

One of the more moving films I've seen in a long time. The Bridge stuck with me for quite a long time after I saw it. Highly recommended, but don't plan on being too cheery after it is over.

Chilling, but so fascinating from a psychological perspective to see people's demeanor right before they choose to end their lives.

After more research, I discovered some interesting facts about production:

That virtually all suicides occurred on the side of the bridge facing the city.
The creators got a filming permit by saying they wanted to catch the "daily natural and industrial elements" surrounding the bridge.
The team believes they intervened in at least 6 jumpers by contacting patrol units. (Gene certainly had enough time to think about it though.)
23 people have jumped and survived. 1500+ have not since its construction in the 1930s.
Bridge engineers refused suicide netting initially because "bay jumpers are less likely to take out innocent people than building jumpers" claiming a public safety issue.
