The Boondock Saints: kiss it or dis it?

Some friends showed me this film a while back. Both of them were totally enthralled with it, but I was underwhelmed, to say the least. I just couldn't feel any sympathy for the main characters, no matter how stylishly they killed people. I personally think Willem Dafoe stole the show. That said, I will acknowledge that there is a definite "cool factor" running through the film; I just don't think the protagonists really do it justice.

diss it.. this movie has some of the corniest lines ever,....(" cuddle....what a fag") its just a bloodbath for nra wannabes, kids from omaha would love it i guess...

I love it.

Willem Dafoe kicks ass.

The Irish-Bostonian accents really made it more stylish for me. I suppose that wouldn't have any effect on someone who didn't have to hear boring ol' Canadian accents all the time.

I enjoyed the way the story would jump to the aftermath of any of the violent scenes, and you'd be filled in as the police worked it out.

It didn't raise any new great moral philosophizing in me, but it was a lot of fun to watch. I give it two thumbs up, hom'z.

I loved this movie, for basically the same reasons as Stark did. I love how it was filmed, I love the characters, and I thought the script was great. William Dafoe was definately the highlight of this movie though.

Pounding_Grooves: the lines were supposed to be corny, look at Dafoe's character, do you really think the director wanted you to take him seriously? I personally thought that line you quoted was hysterical.

I've been looking for this movie but haven't had the chance to see it yet. I've heard some good things, but have been a little skeptical.

my friends love this movie...

...but I agree with Belisarius on this one

and Rocco got on my nerves. sure had a couple funny moments, but... :p

the semi-ex dropped this one on my head over the weekend. I gotta side with Belisarius. The movie has a thread of 'cool' that keeps you rolling along with it.

I loved the way the brothers forcibly educated Rocco as to what he was getting himself into, and I dug Willem Dafoe, but there was something that made it all veneer, no depth.

And Billy Connolly? Cute cameo. Shame about the lousy speechifying. Ironic that the Scotsman has the lousiest Irish accent of all of them.

perhaps it was hyped too much by people before i saw it but i thought it was boring and shallow. it's like they tried to make a stylish movie but totally failed. i wasnt even that impressed with de foe

a big let down and a really terrible movie

DIS!!!!

I saw this movie for the first time last year. Since then,I've probably seen it about 30 times and enjoyed it each and every time. It starts out, seemingly, like a typical crime movie. But becomes an entirely different movie during the first "flashback" sequence, showing what happened to the two dead russians in the alley. This movie deserves the cult status it has been given. My top 3 favorite cult-classic movies at the moment are Donnie Darko,Frailty, and Boondock Saints. There are common threads running through these movies. All three are directed by first-time directors. All three are written by first time writers. All three deal with the main characters dealing with missions put upon them by a higher power. And all three are a healthy, brilliant mix of genres.

alot of these posts reflect my feelings regarding this film. luckily i saw it b4 50 idiots insisted that i see it because it was "fuckin sweet bro!"

i still think it's a funny flick but thats where my praise ends. the ending of the movie is insulting on all levels and most of the acting is pretty wreched. gotta love a masterbating ron jeremy scene though

*kisses it while dissing it*

the movie was pretty goog, lots of good one liners "we need to get you a proverb book, because this mix and match shit isn't worken". william defoe was really good, exspecaily when he butts heads with the young detective

that may be. I saw this movie quite a while ago when my friend let me borrow it. I'd never heard of it and he just told me to watch it and I didn't know what to expect. I love this movie but I've seen it so many times that I've played it out. It's still good though, and I still quote it in conversations from time to time.

Ahaha, this movie kicked my ass. It's like a super hero movie except the heros are Irish and religious with guns and a stupid rope. I thought it was an awesome flick, hilarious too.

This is a strange film.

Although the acting and writing were terrible (Defoe, despite his considerable talents, hammed it up in a lot of his scenes; I would have preferred a more nuanced performance) the movie was entertaining. Stylishly filmed, interesting narrative techniques, some Irish Catholic mysticism and a kickass soundtrack gave it a smattering of emotional bite; the love between the brothers was tangible and they were pretty bad ass. The film doesn't take itself seriously; so just sit back and enjoy the ride, because it's a pleasant aesthetic experience.
