^^cmon..... you're not going to let that interfere with your enjoyment of a movie is it? even if it IS spilt milk (and maybe not even entirely true!) But oh well ;)

the ravings in this thread forced me to watch this. the barrage of negative reviews when The Beach came out made me skip it when it was in theaters. after Titanic turned out to be so huge, people were eager to see DiCaprio flop. and to be even more of an apologist (and an agist), i have a difficult time seeing what anyone over 35 years old would find redeeming in this movie.

but from a selfish perspecitve, this movie reminded me a lot of life’s crazy periods. i wish i had seen The Beach in 2000 when it was in theaters. it fits very well with Fight Club and Go, two other movies released around the same time that also had frenzied character journeys, which, again, were in some way self-relating for me.

to step away from the ego and comment more generally, the film’s visuals, usually resembling calendar art, and the bumping soundtrack are impossible to ignore. sure, it’s all kind of disjointed and sensory, but were it composed any other way, the film would not be nearly as effective. thumbs up.
