Just saw this for the first time and have to say that even though this typically isn't my genre of film, this was done really, really well. The female lead was absolutely outstanding, playing her character perfectly! Donald Sutherland had the best line in the entire movie when he replied to Lizzie with "Well Lizzie, it looks as though you're in a quite a quandry; Your mother will never see you again if you do not marry Mr. Collins... And I will never see you again if you do."
(not quite sure that quote is verbatim - but close enough!)

Mr. Darcy also was an intriguing character, but the dialogue is single-handedly what makes this film imho.

If you liked that you should check out the BBC series of Pride and Predjudice which was done in a much more understated and classy way.

After seeing Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth play those roles, nothing else will ever come close for me. Miss Knightley's performance was cardboard cut-out 2-dimensional paper doll play in comparison. And don't even get me started on that other guy. They completely failed to achieve the tension and chemistry that Jennifer and Colin portrayed so well.

One star for that movie from me.

total chick flick. it was still really good. for anyone who liked this, i recommend sense and sensibility (ang lee, director), which is perhaps the best recent example of this genre.
