new pirates set to come out in 2006 with keith richards playing jack sparrows dad. any thoughts?
i think its insane!!!!! therefore i love it.
 
I am extatic! I am such a geek that I will no doubt go dressed as a pirate. Hmm...must brush up on the pirate lingo. ARRRG! Ye filthy bilge rat!
 
Wooohoooo! Hurrah for pirates!! Now lets all go drink some grog and brawl with each other while sailing the jolly rodger... A pirates life, is the life for me.
 
No Keith Richards (yet) but POTC2 panned out really well. Better than I expected actually.

It really brought back the silly fun adventure of the first film (on first viewing) in full force with an added "the empire strikes back/back to the future 2/matrix reloaded" like structure. I really look forward to the third and hope that it doesn't fuck up the trilogy like Matrix Revolutions.

The run time at slightly over 2.5 hours is a bit much but the subtle one liners from Depp are great (i think i was the only one in the theatre to catch his masturbation joke) and the visual effects are fuckin delicious.

Actually (embarrassingly) saw this last night. Total piece of shit. Extremely long, extremely boring. This movie is not funny at all. Everyone I went with was staring agog at the screen hoping that every character would just die so we could go home and crying just a little bit on the inside that we had spent money to see this absolute turd of a movie.

There is absolutely no structure to the movie. The cast are absolutely unlikeable save Depp and not even he could rescue this movie. The type of humor the creators tried to inject into the movie is the type that only a mentally disabled five year old would think funny. The fact that the movie is longer than Roots doesn't help.

Two thumbs way way way down.

although i scored it 4/5, i'm pretty sure upon subsequent viewings this film will get tired very quickly, just like the first one.
 
^^^^cmon...did ya HAVE to cave in ? ;) Who said anything about subsequent viewings? you loved it at first and that's all that matters!!! 8( =D
 
I'm not caving in sweety. i am really disappointed with the first on second and third viewing despite loving it the first time around.

This is pretty much the problem I had with the first film. It seemed to go on and on and on and on... with very little actually happening in the process - no plot twists or development as such, just scene after scene of the same directionless nonsense.

Every time I thought the film was coming to an end, there was a depressingly thin excuse (plot mechanism) for it to drag on for another 20 minutes. Strangely, when we came out of the cinema everyone else claimed thay enjoyed it immensly, despite my protestations.

I'll be avoiding the subsequent sequals. That said, the first one is on TV tonight, so I guess it'll provide a litmus test.

Gotcha ;) To be quite honest....I have watched the first half of the 1st Pirates on DVD about ten times....and I just never get to finishing it at all because I get restless and bored !
That's a pretty rare occurence for moi so I guess it says something about the film itself =D

In anycase.....I'll prolly just wait to borrow th pirated DVD of this from my brother ;)
