I thought POTC2 was mediocre; it got three stars from me.

What I liked:
--The greater depth given to Sparrow's character.
--Davy Jones and his ship. Superb makeup and F/X.
--Keira was as hot as ever.

What I didn't like:
--Too many obvious tie-ins with the first movie.
--The ending left me feeling sorely hoodwinked.
--In the manner of most sequels, the action was increased to the point of absurdity...

For instance, the scene on the jungle island with the cannibals was, IMO, completely useless, an excuse to puff up the running time by 30 minutes. I mean, it really contributed nothing to the plot. Same deal with the overlong swordfight on the beach and in the jungles.

Then of course, there's the part with the Kraken. The ship with redshirts on it is destroyed almost instantly, yet the Kraken (of course) takes enough time with the Pearl so that cannon and makeshift bombs can be used. Inconsistencies like that really get to me.

I got this movie on DVD for my folks, but only to complete the set...

2 stars. While watching the movie I was alternatively entertained and bored by different scenes. The action scenes were very well done, but the rest of it bored me. It was confusing because they revealed key plot points in single lines of boring dialogue, which (to me) just seems lazy. It seems like they just wrote a confusing and poorly presented story around a bunch of action scenes.

Was it just me, or did anyone else think that the scenes on davy jones' ship were too dark to really see what was going on, or appreciate all the detailed makeup and CG stuff?

Not the best movie ever but I liked it. I loved the flying Dutchman it had so much detail and the crew was very creative as well. I loved the costuming throughout. I can't wait until the patterns are available on line for them=D . I know they had to leave an opening for the third movie but I didn't like how this one was left hanging as badly as it was.
