film : Paycheck

I saw it the other night and thought it was absolute garbage. A good idea, but thats about it. The whole concept was a train-wreck from the start and the acting to boot.

Anyone else seen it?

Yes, the moment I heard tyhey were adapting another PKD story into a movie, I was excited. The moment I ralized that this movie "paycheck" was that adaptation, I became concerned. The moment I found out John Woo was directing it, I resolved not to see it. Too bad. ;(

I wish somebody would do one of Dick's more interesting books, ones with real characters and drama, like "Flow my tears, the policeman said" or "The man in the high castle".

The idea about the movie was great, the way the movie was implemented was awful.

Worst movie ive seen in a long time! Nothing innovative/original/thought-provoking. The acting sucked, the action sucked, it wasnt funny, and the lead actress isnt even hot. Waste of money (at least it wasnt MY money).

wouldnt you people expect it to be cheese. whens the last time ben afflek has done something worth while? dogma and that decent movie with matt damon. come on common sense people.

thanks for the clarification - to me the 'idea' of a movie and the 'concept' of a movie are the very same thing. i now understand what you mean.

i think it raises a useful discussion point. there are many reasons a movie can be 'bad' but very often, it splits down the middle into two broad possibilities:

- a good idea badly made

- a bad idea which is well made

I think all this hating on Affleck will come to a halt when Jersey Girl comes out in 04.

I think the Resident Evil movie is a good example of this. A very simple idea/thin plot with excellent acting (Milla Jovovich) and good directing.

Post Script/Edit: Kevin Smith will always be cool as hell and Ben Affleck will always be a douche.

the terry gilliam/pkd movie i think is: the eternal sunshine of the spotless mind...it is being adapted by charlie kaufman and stars jim carrey.....i could be wrong though, im pretty high

Looked terrible, knew it would be terrible, didn't go see it, turned out to be terrible from what I hear.

The whole idea is so repetitive by now, and Afleck hasn't had a good movie in a while. Daredevil? Gigli?

I thought the movie was really fucking trippy and that it was on the whole a good idea poorly executed.

I disagree with the statement that Uma Thurman is unattractive. I'd totally do her and Ben Affleck. ;)

I do agree that the dialogue was kind of cheesy. I think I'll look around for the book and see if that's any better- it usually is. :)

bad dialogue + bad acting + bad direction = paycheck.

This movie was a total waste of resources, if you can even consider Ben Affleck a resource. Nevermind the plot holes that are big enough to drive a snowplow through, this movie just plain sucks. There is a reason why Affleck is getting so much flack... he can't act his way out of a paper bag without the aid of a competent director, or at least a one who speaks English as a first language. John Woo needs to stop... right now. I don't know how many more contrived plot devices, lame performances and completely pointless white doves I can handle.

I cannot think of a single redeeming part of the movie. Not even Paul Giamatti, who normally steals scenes whenever he is on screen, could save this train-wreck.

Adios,
Steve

has anybody seen the trailer for this one. It looks interesting. It may restore my interest in Jim Carrey.

OT: but is the Jersey Girl a remake of the 80's movie of the same name?

OT again sorry - a Jim Carrey movie would have to be better than Oscar quality for me to restore any interest in him, but if any of the Monty Python team are involved in any way shape or form it could be worth seeing.
