oh well first off i wanna say my bad for not searchin. most of the time i do. but bein stupid and self centered i was like 'well, I never heard of this shit before, it sounds pretty obscure to me, so no way theres gonna be a thread for it." 8) Doh!

Anyways, im glad that there was other threads cuz i like to see some decent discussion of it.

I got a question for anyone who got a opinion.....

When Ting competes in the last arranged fight that he purposely loses so the evil guy can get his money back, against the crazy Burmese boxer who juices himself up w/whatever...

...I was wondering (hope this aint a stupid question) What drug is he injecting himself with?

I know my fair share of recreational drugs, but hormones and that type of shit? I dont know nuttin.

the logical choice would be assuming he was shootin steroids i guess. but the way ppl always made it sound (and again i know nothin so correct me if/when im wrong) bangin some juice wouldnt really jack you up like that and turn you into a wild raging animalistic beast with no real logical thought, right away. it was a crazy instant , immediate energy/strenght/invincibility boost in the movie, and i always thought that 'roids did that to some extent, but more gradually over time not like shootin up dope and gettin instantly high, etc.

I was jus curious cuz the effects that they showed of the drug were pretty crazy.

Anyways, other than when he kills Big Bear, i liked the fight(s) with that dude the best cuz of his total brutal rabid dog insanity. fuckin buckwild, drooling all over the place with a crazed almost dusted out gleam in his eye and grunting like a wild beast or somethin, it made it more suspenseful cuz you KNOW ting will win at the end, but puttin him up against someone THAT fucked up with unhuman levels of endurance and rage makes it more exciting.

Anyways if anyone happens to read this and got a answer to my dumb question please reply. :)

Some athletes will shoot up with adreneline before a fight but I think the way it was portrayed in the movie was just unrealistic. Adreneline does not turn one into a raging beast monster with crazy strength, contrary to popular belief. Basically he shot up with magic movie serum.

Just for the record what was shown in the film was not muay thai. It was movie-fu influenced by muay boran, the supposed precursor to muay thai.

The movie itself was pretty cool except for all the parts that weren't tony jaa doing stunts.

^Yep, from what i know tony jaas specialty (or one of them) is muay boran......obviously the fighting styles in the movie werent "pure" muay thai, but, (and imma say right now, this is just going on opinions ive heard from a couple friends who study muay thai) that the fighting was pretty realistic and not too far from the style but, i wish i could say that from my own knowlege unfortuantely im just beginning to learn about this art so.....

Thanks for that other answer too, ya know i had a feeling it was a "movie drug" like they have in many other movies too where a character is doing a drug but the effects are so wide you got no idea what drug it actually is, and they just wanna give you the idea that the persons fucked up on something. but, in one of the reviews i read the writer said "a burmese fighter who injects steriods before a fight" so i figured it was that....what do i know.....

Thanks for your informative reply......

Also, i dont know if ppl knew this (or care) but i was looking up some of the characters actors in the film and the dude who plays Big Bear aint a serious actor, but actually a former light heavyweight world thai boxing champion who runs a martial arts school and did the movie as a side thing. its nice to see someone who is a fighter that sometimes acts, instead of a actor who can fight a lil bit, playing that kind of part.

^wow! nice one
a girl i work with has been over to thailand to train and will be going back for a few months soon. ever been?
