film: Mean Girls

This movie was okay in the parts where is was being clever and subversive.... but why must all movies of this genre end up relying on farce and gross-out jokes to make up the comedy slack? The scene in the school gym was ridiculous, and then McAdams' character getting hit by a bus... come on, for something as well-casted and hilarious (at the start) as this, that was LAME LAME LAME. It's as if the writers went on holidays at the end and hired hacks from Adam Sandler movies to complete the rest of the script.

All in all 2 stars Not bad for what it was.

Wasn't this movie written by some lady who is an expert in teen behavior? I heard from someone that she was trying to make a movie that accurately depicted the true nature of high school kids and production ended up forcing her to make a lame teen comedy with the usual tired old stereotypes, etc. Basically, this movie was supposed to be something "real" and ended up becoming what it was supposed to be against.

I still liked it, though.

Wasn't this movie written by some lady who is an expert in teen behavior? I heard from someone that she was trying to make a movie that accurately depicted the true nature of high school kids and production ended up forcing her to make a lame teen comedy with the usual tired old stereotypes, etc. Basically, this movie was supposed to be something "real" and ended up becoming what it was supposed to be against.

I still liked it, though.

I don't know what you mean by "Basically, this movie was supposed to be something "real" and ended up becoming what it was supposed to be against." ... it was written by Tina Fey who, based on the fact she's a comedian and stars on SNL, I can pretty much assure you that from the start this was supposed to be a funny movie, not a serious one. Although she did still manage to get the point across.

You won't be able to really "get" the movie to the fullest unless you're a girl who had to experience the teenage years like that. You guys don't get it... you didn't go through it. You may have seen it but thats a totally different thing.

I was mistaken as to who wrote it. I was under the impression that the expert who wrote the book wrote the movie, or was somehow responsible for birthing the movie concept.

I thought it was a really good movie. (I just got through watching it)

there were a lot of funny parts

when she first got to the school and she walked up to the black girls and started speaking an african dialect.

the jungle scenes where everyone was acting like an animal

some other ones that I forgot

and when the girl got hit by the bus...I was like dammmmn


is it worth a repeat....maybe....but not now, I'll wait a while.


some people look at it and think it's just a bitchy movie, but underneth the bitchyness.....there was a good underlying meaning...but right now, I really can't remember what it was

Lindsay Lohan's character came from Africa. I'm pretty sure that's what darko e was referring to. Did you two even watch the movie? I guess since it was over three years since you've posted, I won't be getting an answer anytime soon.
