Back in 2004 the BBS put out a 3 part series on Cocaine. Overall it was an excellent series focusing on different parts of the issue in south america. The first part followed coca farmers, the second part gives a glimpse into life in brazillian ghettos ruled by drug gangs, and the third part focused on an anti-drug official.

Leo and Ze was the 2nd film in the series, the one about the Brazillian ghettos. It is truely an excellent film, and possibly the best documentary I've ever seen.

I just stumbled upon it on youtube so you can watch it there (in 6 parts :() but if you can find it elsewhere on the tubes in higher quality i strongly recommend it.

I downloaded this shortly after it was shown on Australian TV and definitely agree with your general sentiments.

I probably enjoyed the first part the most. I guess I found the farm and country community life most revealing. Part 2 very much reminded me of the film City of God though, which just added to the intrigue.

The documentary title is "Viva la Cocaine" for anyone who does want to download it. I think I downloaded my copy from mininova.org.

There are three parts of the documentary series

1. 'Viva La Coca'
2. 'Leo and Ze'
3. 'A Honest Citizen'

Pretty coll...just finished all 3 parts. The 2cd was the best though I agree. I can't imagine how they arranged to film that, especially when the camera guy was alone in a room with those 4 guys with pistols and they were getting geeked as hell doing fat ass lines:! He must've been scared as hell

It's not by the BBC, it was made by Channel 4 (in the UK). It may help with your searches. I thought Leo & Ze was the most worst of the trilogy, the other two were good though :)

oops.. yeah channel 4

and how could you not like Leo and Ze!!?! haha i dunno it was less like a documentary and more like a movie but thats why i liked it.. it really makes you feel like you are there in those slums
