same. for example some people in pulp fiction thought that the scene where the guy gets shot in the head in the moving car was incredibly funny... i just thought it was shock value and pathetic.. [/B]

I'm not so sure I found the idea of Marvin getting his head shot off very funny. I did, however, find Vincent's reaction to getting splattered with cranial material, moreso than of killing Marvin, hillarious. And to boot, It all occoured while he was asking him a question about God miraculously stopping bullets.

Come on..., you'd probably like it if it was subtitled. ;)

Ok, so ... doesn't like the films. That's established.

Can we move on now?

because i don't like the films i can't be involved in a discussion about them?

nobody is saying that, are they?

there's a lot of emotion in your responses and i truly believe that's clouding the issues.

i think a reading of this thread suggests that, generally speaking, people are quite open to the idea of a negative opinion and, further, that somebody simply saying "i think it sucked" does not normally cause an uproar.

conclusion? there's more here than meets the eye.

an opportunity to reiterate that, often, it's not what you say it's the way that you say it.

perhaps this is an opportunity to do some learning about your own style of participation. in that sense, the forum members are doing you a favour :)

i found the marvin scene had a lot of impact for me because it's totally unexpected. i got a huge fright and my immediate reaction was one of, perhaps, bewilderment. i don't think it was gratuitous at all as it took its place in the chain of dominoes quite comfortably - marvin's death was the springboard for the entire mr. wolf segment.

one thing i'm sure we can all agree on (even you souny?) is that quentin tarantino is a terrible actor. :)

I have to be honest in saying that some of the over the top 'conversation' and/or 'discussion' about this film (or the film-maker) between some of you is keeping some of us from going into detail with our comments, and I'm sure keeping a lot of others from commenting at all.

I made my two word post, holding back any details for fear of having my head ripped apart over my opinion on the film. Others have said they have been avoiding this thread because of the last one, this one is a little better, but not much IMHO. Maybe someone should start a thread to discuss Tarantino specifically? I don't know, but really, come on, give it a rest, all opinions have clearly been stated ... is there need to argue about it further?

Maybe I'm out of line for saying so, but I think I'm speaking what some others are feeling, if a mod wishes to delete, please feel free to do so.:) I don't mean to offend.

*As far as the blood* I thought it was hlilarious. It wasn't realistic, which made it easy to find humurous ... I think that was the point. Blood squirting in a stream 6 feet across the room didn't gross me out, I was one of those people laughing out loud in the theatre.=D

While I thought Pulp Fiction was a masterpiece (just so fucking entnertaining and seamless) I didn't particularly like Kill Bill.

I thought the film's pace sucked - it moves waay to slowly for the type of film it is trying to be. If a film is trying to be a hack-em up hong kong style revenge flick then it needs all action. The scene with the sword makers (while amusing) really killed the pace for me. Not that it went for too long, it was just really slow.

While it was really entertaining and well put together I thought the Anime scene (plus the black and white bits) appeared really tacked on and gratuitous (not the violence which was cool, but the whole scene). It seemed as if Tarantino bolted these elements onto the side of the film for the sake of doing something different.

So overall, despitee the ultra violence in the movie I got pretty bored with it, due to some slow scenes and poor pacing courtesy of a couple of 'fillers'

As far as Tarantino goes, I think of him as a bit of a one-hit wonder - he hasn't really made an excellent film aside from Pulp Fiction.

I give Tarantino MASSIVE amounts of credit for doing something in American film that has barely even been attempted to the past. He brought Anime style, directly, and cinamatography into a live action film. By reading many of the above posts, I realized that many people do not see this movie for what it really is.

This movie was obviously NOT meant to be just a hack and slash film. The above mentioned scene (the sword making scene) was shot and directed unbelievably well in Anime form. The camera angles, acting, and correography all matched that of the Anime style. Everything from the dirty old man to the bumbling fool of a brother was paying hommage to the artform of Anime.

Also, the inclusion of actual Anime in the film was awesome in my eyes. This really just reinforced the idea of what Tarantino was trying to accomplish. I really think he did a superb job incorporating true Anime style into this film.

The blood was definately done amazingly well and held true to Anime style. It was done like a comic book for many reasons, the biggest being to hold true to Anime style. Anime is NOT supposed to be realistic, quite the contrary actually. The blood was not supposed to be taken seriously, and was done in such a way that taking it seriously would truly be a feat of the imagination. It looked absolutely ridiculous, how could that gross anyone out? Christ, it looked like kool aid.

Personally, I think this is Tarantino's best film yet. I loved pulp fiction, but loved this one even more. I am a "Hardcore" Anime fan, so that may be why. It had everything from the uberpowerful hero, the dirty old man, and the wild, unique weapons that makes anime what it is.

i second ShAdEs0fGrAy (for a seperate Tarantino thread)

i agree that there are some people in this thread whose hatred for tarantino is interfering with the discussion of kill bill. many posts seem to repeat the same anti-tarantino points over and over again.

i'd like to be able to post in this thread without having to argue every little point to death. i'd like to see discussion of the actual movie. discussion about what the second half will be like. discussion about changes you would make to the movie if it were up to you. questions about the movie. how hot everyone looked. anything related to the movie and not related to a) originality in movies and art or b) anything just about tarantino and not the movie.

that said, i really enjoyed kill bill and can't wait for the second part in feb =D

*ahem*

I liked it, simply because I walked out of the cinema and realised I had gotten my money's worth. I haven't been that entertained at the movies in a long long time :)

Awesome movie. I'm a huge kung fu flick fan and this is by far the best to come out in 10 years. Here's some lil facts about the movie. Nothing to revealing.

1. Samuel L. Jackson has a cameo as the dead organ player in the chapel.
2. Bill killed O-Ren's father. That's him in the anime.
3. Budd is Bill's brother.
4. Gordon Liu actually plays 3 roles in the movie. Hattori's assistant, Johnny Mo, and as Shaolin master Pai Mei in the second flick.
5. There are numerous references to the Bride's real name in the movie. She's even called parts of her name by several characters.
6. Quentin makes a cameo as one of the Crazy 88.

Best fan site is killbill2.net -- Has tons of info about the movie. Check it out.

I think Im the only person in the world to not "get" this movie..I was miserable the whole time I was watching it, the only two things that kept me from walking out was the guy I was with was REALLY enjoying it, and I liked a few of the fight scenes. I dont see what is so awesome about this movie...can someone enlighten me as to what I dont see in it :(

I think Fox Force Five is pretty obviously totally unconnected to DiVAs.

I really cannot see any possible connection between the two - Fox force five was a T.V. Show pilot - i.e. it was fictitious, it did not exist! DiVAs actually exist in the movie world.

I don't think the worlds of Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction are one and the same....

Well, according to killbill2.net, in the FAQ....

Wait a minute.. *counts fingers* .. Didn't they model the DiVAS on Fox Force Five; ya know, that group Uma Thurman mentions in Pulp Fiction?
According to a recent interview, yes, the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad (DiVAS) are supposed to be based upon the Fox Force Five announced in Pulp Fiction. The only difference is that instead of 5 women, there are 4 women and 1 man.

So uh.. I don't think it's that hard to fathom, personally.

You don't HAVE to like it :)

oh i know this:p

Im just wondering what I am "missing" like what is the real point of the movie..I dont even grasp that...:\

^^ I think to truly appreciate the film, you have to be into anime. As I said before, the whole film was done in anime style, and done WELL. Everything from the cinematography to the dialog was modeled after the anime "formula". Watch a few Anime films and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I don't watch anime (not that I have anything against it) and I still really liked the film. I thought it was very visually appealing, I liked the story, and I liked the fight scenes.

I thought it was an engaging movie.
