this movie is coming along to one-up supersize me.
i dont know how many times i have heard in this forum or from friends that they wish this book was made into a movie instead of/with supersize me...

so...

fast food nation: do you want lies with that?
opens nov. 17

Famed writer/director Richard Linklater directs an A-list cast in a dramatized version of the best-selling book Fast Food Nation. Greg Kinnear (Little Miss Sunshine), Wilmer Valderrama (That ’70s Show), Catalina Moreno Sandino (Maria Full of Grace), and Ethan Hawke (Before Sunset) create a complex, compelling, and entertaining movie, with rich performances and sharp dialogue. Ever wonder what goes into making a fast-food burger? Discover that, and so much more, as you are drawn into the stories of many different people who work together to create that all-American phenomenon known as the fast-food meal. See the toll it takes on everyone—humans and other animals—involved.

trailer seen here, too^

im a little disturbed that this great book is shown not in documentary style but slick movie style with big actors and a thrown in love story. i mean it is obvious that going to this movie you werent going to see a peta style blood and gore film.... but having storylines and the hollywood touch lessens the blow and makes the story almost fictional in a sense instead of plainly laid out truth.

I'm seeing the hollywood premier tonight, although I'm now pissed to find out its not a documentary and I'm missing richard devine, henry strange, and helios jive because I got roped in to see it.

^Its not a documentary? what the fuck? I don't know if it will be good now, it seems pretty tough to make a plot movie out of such a great book. Although they did it with A hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, so maybe they'll succeed here too. maybe not, but who knows.

I can't imagine Linklater making a bad movie, but he is one of my all time favorite directors.

:( no one has seen it yet? the book is one of my favorite reads of all time!

*crosses fingers for a good movie*

^ from the reviews and notes i read right before it was released there were hints of a love story of somesort in there.

and not to sound all crazy... but i hope the film does effect mor people like it did to you.

This one finally came up on our Netflix queue. I've never really been a big fan of Linklater (Dazed & Confused and A Scanner Darkly are the only two films of his that I have actually enjoyed), but I found this one to be even more pretentious than Waking Life.

Don't get me wrong. I totally appreciate the goal of the film, I just hate it when movies resort to trying to guilt people into an agenda or belief. Was it gross seeing the cows get slaughtered in the end? Of course it was. However, it's not going to make me any more of a vegan than watching The Passion of the Christ made me want to be a christian.

It's a weird flick, very strangely directed (unlike Linklater's other films) and at first it seems a little flat but as it progresses, it grows on you. Well it grew on me anyway.

This is the same for me as well. I read this thread before watching the movie and lots of people were telling me it sucked and was a waste of time, but I still watched it anyway :p ;) Ya know, it wasnt that bad. Sure it was boring at times and seemed to drag on, but like souny said...it grew on me. And the ending left me strangely sad but satisfied.

PS. I still love meat.
PPS. I'm reading the book now (apparently my sister has it!) and am enjoying myself thoroughly. I read half of it last night and I cant wait to read the rest later.

as said, another case of book being much better than the execution of the movie
there didn't seem to be much connection between characters and only little highlights of the book were apparent. i knew it would have to be toned down for the mass market movie deal but.... it lost so much and gained... well, nothing.

^ good point.

I agree, there was a lot of good about this film however it came of as being less than the sum of its parts mostly because the major parts didn't gel and it most certainly didnt flow

The abattoir scene just came out completely disconnected and looked nothing more than an over sensationalised topic piece
