film: crouching tiger hidden dragon
d: ang lee
s: chow yun fat, michelle yeoh, zhang ziyi
c: yuen wo ping
i just sat through this for the nth time in my dvd with the inferior subtitles. this time with the inlaws (it's really the only dvd i have we can watch together).
this continues to be, without a doubt, one of my most favourite films (of any genre). the story is SUPERB. few dramas get anywhere near the subtlties and complexities of this story as it paints a fine illustration of the differences and precariousness of dancing between what is business/duty and what is personal. shot spectacularly by mr lee with gorgeous locations and well placed cg and editing, along with the best choreography work i've yet to see by the yeun wo ping team. seriously, the shit he did in the matrix and kill bill are nothing next to this.
it would be a dream to me to have the same creative team go at the rest of the five part story, but as time goes by that seem progressively less likely.
i love this film so much. >5/5
