i was so excited when i got to watch the LWW cartoon when i was little (after reading the books) and then came the Wonder Works movies, which were really cool. can't wait to see a major production like this. hope disney does a good job.

^I mean it looks great and all, but didn't Peter Jackson just make some trilogy that looks exactly the same. I mean the story is different, but the visual aspect seems to have taken a page from LOTR's book.

^this isn't neccessarily a bad thing, just wondering if any1 else noticed this . . .

CS Lewis and Tolkien were long time friends...

Narnia is far more religious-based than LOTR

and this will have as much visual connnection to
LOTR as it does literaryu connection... and it's not
a bad thing.

but anyone who's read the stories and know
the biographies of the writers know that, yes,
they'll be things like trolls and goblins and
shit... and yes, they may look like jackson's...

but it'll still be a good movie.

i hope it's not 3 hours, tho.

i don't think people will sit thru it. and the
kids, i can already tell, will be annoying in large
doses.... and i hope they do all the books like
they want to.

let's just hope this isn't too Disney-fied.

Looks extraordinary from the trailer.

There will be visual similarities to LOTR due to the fact that Walden Media has contracted with WETA, the people responsible for bringing the LOTR trilogy to life.

As already stated, Tolkien and Lewis were good friends and often met up at the pub to discuss literature, and the fact that nobody was writting the types of stories they wanted to read (ie. fantasy).

The seven books that make up The Chronicals of Narnia are as precious to those who grew up with them as the LOTR books are to their own fans. They are not as intricate and complex as Tolkien's works, but still bound with details of foreign worlds, princes, magic, swords, great ships, strange beings and gruesome monsters.

I actually had a chance to meet the CEO of Walden Media about 9 months ago or so. My conversation with him alone got me incredibly excited about these films. The way he described how Aslan will look, the casting, the dedication of everyone involved to stay as true as possible to Lewis' books assured me that this wonderful set of stories was in the right people's hands.

Oh, and yes.... they are contracted to do all seven books. :) The plan is to release one film a year (around Christmas time). He stressed the fact that they need to film on a very strict schedule as they do not want the cast growing up before they finish the final installment. I believe he also said that they have already begun filming for "Prince Caspian".

Sweet, I loved this series of books when I was a kid. I hope its really true to the book. Gooo Mr. Tumnus!

I loved the cartoon when i was young!!!! The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe...does ANYBODY remember this????? The ones with the brother and sister, the closet, the turkish delight , Mr. and Mrs Beaver...God it was so long ago but i still remember every detail of it.

Are they going to make 7 movies (from memory that's how many books there were)?

I just watched the preview and it looks pretty good.

Maybe it's time for me to read the books again...

*Edit* Just read Sebastians Ghost's post. That's great that they are going to do all 7 books.

If they're going to do all 7 books, why are they starting with the second one? And Prince Caspian is the fourth book, but they've already started filming?

Don't get me wrong - these are most likely going to be awesome movies. But I can't see how they'll possibly do each book as a single movie. It'd be kinda hard to go back and do The Magicians Nephew after The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe (unless they're going to go for the prequel concept, which would be "interesting").

P.S... can those pictures be resized? I've got a pretty big monitor, and they're still causing side scrolling.

hehe.. i understand alll the LOTR comparisons, but in terms of the movie market.. this will probably be a competetion for Harry Potter more than anything else..especially since Disney is grabbing it.

^Thx Sebastians_ghost, the similarity in the production, not the story or similarities in characters, is what I meant. But that explains it all. :)

I wasn't very impressed with the trailers I've seen.

Then again, that means very little I'm sure.

i'm worried that we'll only see 1 picture, tho.

i know they want to do all of them (success providing, of
course)... but i dunno if the general populace is ready
for ANOTHER series of 3-hour movies linked together...

and it'd have to be an annual thing (at LEAST) or else
you run the risk of loss of interest by the 3rd or 4th one.

these aren't exactly well-known amongst the kind of
crowd that makes mega blockbuster videos... and unless
Disney is doing the same "German-tax shelter" thing that
Paramount does, they'll need that crowd to be successful...

these movies ain't cheap.

oh, i doubt it, somehow...

i mean, HP has a built-in fanbase.

they aren't going anywhere.

PLUS, the KIDS that go to see HP
aren't the same kids that know
these stories... THOSE kids are
all in their 20s and 30s and will
probably have kids that, best
case scenerio, they take to see
both movies.

but i guarantee you, if they have
to chose between HP and Narnia,
Narnia is gonna lose out.
