About the issue of the Ford, it's only briefly that Bond drives a Ford and it's just a rental that he had while he got himself set up in a different location. His actual "Bond Car" is a DB9, and he does briefly get ahold of a '65 Aston Martin, so they do touch nicely on Bond's taste for the Aston Martin.

Poker is excusable, as they are updating the novel to modern times.

I agree. The poker criticism is a dumb one because the game(s) Bond originally played was/were (the) game(s) of the moment. Therefore, the use of poker actually makes a lot of sense and is more consistent with the original Bond idea.

I really hated this bond, worst bond ever. Bond movies were always meant to be toungue-in-cheak not so serious humor, this one has 0 humor, 0 toys or gadgets and reallyyyyyyyyyyyy boring scenes, AND Bond falls in LOVE ??? WTF!!! Plus I hate Daniel Craig as Bond :X

Let me clarify, as an "action movie" if you've never seen a Bond film before, it was pretty good, but as a Bond 'genera 'which has it's own little category that is seperate from all other movies, it really sucked. I always enjoyed the impossible stunts and the sarcastic remarks when someone died. This Bond had none of it. I guess the producers were banking on the younger audience , not familiar with Bond at all and they scored.

Bring Back Roger Moore!!! =D :p

You clearly have tunnel vision regarding the Bond franchise. The franchise has consistently turned in different directions to keep the franchise viable or at least appealing. Craig is much more in the vein of a Sean Connery than a Roger Moore. For example, when the producers thought the franchise was becoming too loose and flimsy with Moore (did you even see "A View to a Kill"??) they brought in Dalton who was Moore's complete opposite. Similarly, the past few Bond films have been ridiculous and superfluous and it was in the interest of the franchise to change directions again and make the series grittier.

Basically, your point isn't that the producers have changed the scope of the Bond franchise as it pertains to the entire catalogue of Bond films, but that you like Roger Moore and wish that every Bond had his characteristics.

^ indeed.

which makes the later bond movies mush further from the fleming vision of bond than this latest movie (i.e. read the books).

i saw this last night and loved it. a big part of the reason i loved it was the departure from the gimmicky bonds of recent years. i loved that bond was a little rough around the edges and just starting to find find his inner 007.

the romance was more in-depth without being cheesy or too sentimental and i really think that craig's got acting talent. i'm bummed they trashed an aston martin :)

i was on the edge of my seat during the initial chase scene and also the scene where he's poisoned at the poker game and he goes to the car to use his back of tricks to resuscitate himself

I much preferred the actress who played Solange in terms of face and physique.

tunnel vision ? Huh ? Bond, and the image of 007 is a FANTASY, the impossible dream of super-human like abilities and scoring chicks while saving the country AND having time for sarcastic remarks while killing the bad guys. That was bond's selling point in the movies, now bond has become just like any other crappy action hero. I can count at least 5 "SPY THEMED" movies that are WAYYYYYYYYYY batter than this new bond. I'd list them here but I am too lazy...
:p

I saw this yesterday and was surprised how good it was! :)

Not usually a fan of Bond films, but I thought they did realy well with this one. It didn't seem as cheesy as the last few - which is a good thing. Daniel Craig makes a really good Bond, IMO. The acting also seemed pretty good and believable most of the time.

My only gripes would be the lack of decent female totty, not seeing enough of the DBS and the slight OTT last scene. But that's just being picky! :p

Agree with all of this. An excellent movie and thank god they got away from the horrible cheesey one liners are absurd gadgets. Makes it all the more real and because of that you feel a lot more involved in the story.

I'm surprised it was only a 12 in the UK though. I found myself wincing and looking away at one point.

If you didn't like the movie, that's fine, but don't suggest that it hasn't been true to the rest of the Bond franchise and that Casino Royale was stripped of all fantasy and wit. The movie had several quips albeit not on the level of Roger Moore's jack-assery, particularly in his later movies. Did you see any of the Dalton movies? Talk about zero humor.

Top notch film. It seems the producers learned quite a bit fom the Bourne series. the hand to hand combat was very gritty and very realistic. The knife scene in the museum was really well done!

never really been a bond fan but i loved this film
I have found that with the Bond movies, even if you dont like the film alot, it is worth watching to get the references to it in pop culture. It makes other movies and shows better knowing the source of the joke/idea..
