I've been using Methylphenidate for a long time and tolerated it quite well. But after about two years of daily use I slowly developed a king of allergy against it. Now even small doses as 5mg cause itching and make my head feeling like i had fever.

So I tried to fight these symptoms with histamine antagonists (Loratadine, Cetirizine) with at least some success. Cetirizine seems to work somewhat better for me than Loratadine.

Can somebody recommend other (stronger) anti histamine drugs for this purpose?

I'd really hope it's not an allergic reaction to methylphenidate itself - but since I've tried several different methylphenidate products from different manufacturers I hardly doubt that's just some additives it the tablets. I've swallowed countless tablets containing a lot of other substances in my life - but never got any problems with them...

Perhaps it would be beneficial to perform an 90+% ISo wash on those tabs, put solution through a coffee filter and evaporate till left with powder, to see if u still get a reaction without some filler gunk.
My buddy has 30 5mg ir he wants me to help him purify later so ill let u know how it worked out.

those symptoms could also occur if one is taking to much methylphenidate. are you taking anything else that might potentiate methylphenidate or affect its metabolism?

anyway, benadryl is what i would go to first if i thought i had an allergy.

Perhaps you are allergic to chalk?

Methylphenidate pills have chalk as binders.

@onmyway: Yes I'm thaking Clomipramine and Buprenorphine, too. But since many other people develope a methylphenidate intolerance as well - I doubt those symptoms are caused by any interaction of those substances.

@pofacedhoe: I HAD to stop taking them. But without stimulants I can't concentrate/work. That's why I switched to (D-)Amphetamine which makes me feel happy as hell - but unfortunately it does not nearly make me as focused as methylphenidate did.

I didn't test Diphenhydramine for this purpose yet - but maybe its worth a try although its pronounced sedating properties...

come off all the hard stimulants and you will have month of very poor concentration and drink strong GREEN tea (and eat lots of fish or omega 3 and get strong B vitamin complex)- it helped me when i came off tramadol which my mum said left me with a ridiculously poor attention span. time heals and balance in your body is the way forward.

just because you find doing boring work boring doesn't mean you need hard stimulants. if you take these drugs away from the concept of ADHD they are simply hard drugs.

tramadol gave me great focus and attention, but now green tea works wonders. CUT out the caffeine/sugar which is often the biggest cause of distractability and poor focus. they're is nothing EVIL about being hyper is called having energy and do you know what people did in times gone by? they put it into plowing and building and chopping wood instead of pc's and water cooler moments and sitting for long periods snacking on crap and drinking endless machine coffee to quell the never ending bore hole that is the modern office/school/uni/whatever fits here for you.

some of us are not meant to sit at a desk for long periods, period .
