Field-Testing for LSD

Dear Bluelight,

There are many sources out there for field testing of LSD to see if it's the "real deal", such as this one on Erowid, http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/lsd/lsd_info2.shtml, but does anybody know how to get a somewhat precise measurement (within twenty micrograms of the actual dose) of the dosage of LSD. My only source of the dose is from the guy I'm buying it from, and these responses range from "I don't know" to "What the fuck is a microgram?", when I get a precise measurement, which I've got only once when a dealer told me that he thought there was about 100 micrograms in each hit. But I never asked him if that was based on his supplier or a subjective estimate.

Unless you know the person who laid the sheets, have access to a GC/MS, or have a reference standard (known concentration of pure LSD in solution), you're essentially fucked. Quantitative measurements are tricky that way.

For what it's worth, simple existence can be determined on blotter via Marquis reagent. The paper turns greenish-brown, can go almost black. The better the lay the darker it gets. 1/2 a hit is a small price to pay for a quick & fairly accurate assessment as to the chemical on the paper. Also, I've seen different colors come up, which is a nice early warning of maybe a DOX or something misrepresented as L.

Too bad there are no independent labs we can send samples to for testing. It would be an excellent harm mitigation strategy.
