Hi. Just wanted to ask a few things about opium (the dried excretion from poppy pods; not opiates in general). First, what is the consistency of morphine and codeine in opium? If I'm correct, each sequential scraping of the pods yields less potent opium. Which leads me to my next questions: can you standardize opium at all? and if the opium were to be a "standard" consistency, what would the starting dosage be (for smoking or oral ingestion)? Only reply if you know what you're talking about, no guessing. Thanks. :)

Anyway, I've read that opium generally contains ~10% morphine, but that was in a phamaceutical formulary so they were talking about medically prepared, powdered opium. As for raw opium and reguarding other alkaloids present in opium, I can't help you.
 
twig, I was going to respond to your remark, but what's the point?... (I didn't buy opium, as you inferred, btw)
don't treat people in the forums like idiots unless they say something stupid, like: "dude, i just got this opium stuff, can i make heroin if i mix it with lemon juice?"

Here's a very indepth cite about the alkaloid content of various poppy species. It is a little complictated, but you can figure it out, it should have that info.

As far as dosage goes, here's a quote..."As to the amounts you'd start with, it's best left to the individual really, start with a matchead size portion of opium per person and take it from there. The effects of O are fairly immediate, making it easier to calculate an appropriate smoking dose as opposed to say, dropping acid. It is, of course, much easier to overdose via oral dose of opium, which is why I've recommended the smoking route." Pay attention to that last bit, he's quite correct.
