uacvax said:OHhhh. That makes a lot of sense, his productions are so boring and static, I guess he plays a lot of other peoples' songs
none can? i've seen many psytrance acts play dj sets of only their own stuff.airforlife said:...unless, you are a dj who has amazing productions and can fill up a whole set with your own stuff; however, not many people can do this, probably none can.
airforlife said:A good set will consist almost exclusively of other peoples' songs, that is, unless, you are a dj who has amazing productions and can fill up a whole set with your own stuff; however, not many people can do this, probably none can.
eras3r said:What? Most producers CAN fill entire sets with their own tracks. My better half can and does from time to time. Do they always do this? No. Generally credit is given where credit is due by playing other people's tracks.
There are PLENTY of producers who are DJs in the world who do this. Usually they are performed as live PAs, but not always.
airforlife said:Yea they CAN but no one's that good of a producer, I like to see a varied set when I go see a dj, and even when Tiesto, PvD, and Ferry go up there and blast their own songs all night it's a shitty ass set.
I'm talking about trance only , not anything else (never seen a live psytrance show)
twgburst said:Producing and spinning are totally different things. Why would you produce someone else's music Except for remixes, its kind of pointless? Spinning only your own tracks is kind of lame also, you'd be better off doing a live PA. I've seen Ferry a bunch of times, he almost always throws down a good set. Last set I saw in NYC was kind of lame though towards the end.
airforlife said:Just to illustrate my point, take the big name trance dj Eddie Halliwell. He has almost no productions to speak of, yet he is very popular within the trance scene, and this means ALL of the songs he plays are not his own. Just goes to show you that producing, like twgburtst said, is a totally different thing than spinning.
airforlife said:Notice how like only 9 of the songs are his? He's a top 5 dj, and less than 25% of the set is his own productions.
eras3r said:Yes, I get that producing is a totally different thing than spinning. You're preaching to the choir here. However, Ferry Corsten didn't become popular because of his l337 DJing skills. There are very few DJs who got popular relying just on DJing, and most of those people hopped on board over 15 years ago and made their mark in a market that wasn't as competitive as it is today.
What exactly is your point here? No one has to DJ a set or perform a live PA of their own tracks. I'm surprised he play 9 of his own tracks, to be honest.
airforlife said:And Eddie Halliwell DID become popular on the trance scene just because of DJing. Production definitely helps, but it's not essential as he has shown.
