Hi,
My pain management doctor gave me an option to switch into fentanyl patch as he says that they are more comfortable to use than taking time released oxycodone. He says that they are supposed to last 72 hours but says also that he would prescribe me one patch for each 48 hours as he has get so many complaints from patients that they dont last as long as they are supposed.
I have few questions for taking the switch.
I have been using 20-60mg of oxycodone daily for pain management. Mostly 20-40mg. I do recreationally during weekends double the daily dose crushed orally.
What could be a equivalent fentanyl patch option?
How is the recreational value compared to oxycodone? Any differences for high or onset and offset.
Fentanyl administration for recreational purposes seems a bit dangerous too. My method would be sucking part of the patch as I dont do iv. But cutting the patch in part could cause too rapid release to my system causing od as the cutting brokes the release mechanism from the edges of the patch.
So I am wondering would it be worth it to switch to fentanyl patches?
And do I suffer WDs from oxycodone while transition phase?
I have two days until the next appointment to choose whether to continue on oxycodone or switch to a fentanyl. Also the Dr mentioned he might up my dose to 40mg pills of oxycodone max three times a day as the newest mri shows worsening of the condition and my surgery is within next 3-6 months.
