i'm interested in knowing more about this administration of fentanyl.
why isn't there any readily available info for it?
I *heard* that the sugar content in this form is unhealthily high.

HIGHLIGHTS OF RECENT LABELING CHANGES
General considerations: Each transmucosal unit contains about 2 g of sugar. Frequent consumption of products containing sugar may increase the risk of dental caries, and dry mouth associated with opioid use may add to the risk.
Patient counseling: Diabetic patients should be advised that each unit contains about 2 g of sugar. To ensure appropriate oral hygiene, all patients should be told to consult their dentist.
Oral transmucosal units: 200, 400, 600, 800, 1,200, 1,600 µg

And if your sucking on Actiq, does a little sugar really matter, I mean, come on.
 
It seems pretty rare. I've never come across one...never even KNOWN anyone who's had one.
 
I've only seen the 1,600 µg suckers, but I've known a couple people who dealt with them...it's really more of a novelty thing, because the street price is really high for the amount of drug your getting, at least in my experiances.

µg is micrograms, I'll look around for a picture...It's a little sucker in a handle that says "Actiq"
 
Yeah, that is the sucker with a cap on it. The cap comes off, and underneath is a red lollipop.
 
Hello all. In a dream, I had the joy of trying a few of the 1,600's a couple of years back. These will put you on your ass. BTW, diatribe, the picture is of the sucker, there is no cap. It is an off-white,razzberry flavored cone shaped sucker. The back side which we don't see says "Fentanyl". Anyway, I would take one by putting it between my cheek and gum. I did not suck it, I just let it sit there for five minutes and would then take it out, leaving the rest for later. About two minutes later, whoosh! You are loaded. I would consume one sucker over a three hour period and be high for a good part of the day. They were very pricey but as a novelty, it was worth it.
 
I've never fully understood where those come from. For what exactly do you need to prescribe a sweet tasting candy full of a powerful opiate? Seems like a recipe for child poisonings and such...
In any case, I'd love to try one! And you are quite right that worrying about the sugar content of such a strong drug is rather silly ;)

its normally givin to pain patients who need pretty instant results with oral meds. the only time i had teh opurtunity to use them was in the case of someone who was terminally ill,however im sure they;re prolly presc. in lesser cases. when i had the op. to test them they were fun one pop had me nodding nice.never had the patch so i dont know how to compare.flavors not bad either :)
 
^^^ When you're about to perform a painful medical procedure on a 6-year old. They tend to prefer the lollipops to being approached by a strange white-coated man with a needle, for some reason. :) And the sugar warning is hilarious.
 
Reminds me of a letter I once saw being answered in an advice column. Some guy had decided to take his family on vacation to Rwanda, The Congo and several other countries in that region. He was worried because they drive on different sides of the road, and he asked if it was a big risk because of traffic accidents that can happen when crossing the boarder and switching between sides of the road.
Nevermind the GENOCIDE that was taking place there ;)

Zorn, no one in the medical profession would ever give a child that young one of these suckers. The ones I had states right on the package that the amount of drug in the sucker is enough to kill a child. It furthers goes to say it should be hidden from kids so they will not mistake it for candy. Also, you are not supposed to take these unless your are already on strong pain medication. If you do not have a tolerance, you could possibly die from these. These are mostly used for breakthrough cancer pain.

Hmmm, I had heard before they were mainly used for kids.... but you're right, Actiq is not meant for children, and apparently the high rate of vomiting precluded the development of other weaker formualations.
So I was wrong and stand corrected. Thanks!
 
My mother had these because she's had reflexive sympathetic dystrophy her entire life. They only gave her the lollypops for half a year though before workman's comp decided that the "risk for addiction was too great".
She was getting the 1,600ug 'pops and claimed they tasted pretty damn good actually (like raspberry).
We used to have boxes of them in the house before I was old enough to realize that they needed stealing. :)

Thats not a cap, that is the lollipop, ,they come in boxes of 24 and each box has 6 rows of packets attatched in 3's. each pop has the white pop top, and a rectangle in the miiddle with the wor fentanyl on one side and RX on the other.
They come in 100, 200, 400, , 600, 800, 1200, and 1600mcg pops.
Price is not do bad, ,at leats here, ,the 1200mcgs are $10, and well worth it. I'd take it over an 80mg OC anyday.
