So I've been on Fentanyl for about 5 months now and I'm noticing I get severely depressed at times for no reason at all. Also when I take my roxycodone I'll get a bit hyper and then suddenly sad to the point of tears.
What's going on here? I have never had any type of emotional problems prior to being on these medications.
Anyone else have this issue? I told my doctor and he said that it was a rare side effect that happens once in a while. I feel trapped now, because apparently from what I read coming off of Fentanyl is no ride in the park!

Did you talk to your doctor about switching opiates? It sounds like fentanyl isn't for you.

Coming off fentanyl is no ride in the park, but if your doctor prescribes you another opiate or a tapering opiate (for example, buprenorphine), it will be much easier. Are you taking fentanyl for chronic pain or another condition?

Forms of oxycodone causes me to get hyper & edgy except for percs, they chill me out like hydrocodone. Maybe its the tylenol in them. As for why the Fentanyl is making you depressed, it obviously has to do with your edorphins & what not, at least thats my guess.

Thank you for the quick replys.
In answer to your questions
I take fentanyl for chronic pain.
And yes same with me TheLostBoys, but I'll be hyper then crash within an hour it's strange, I get so exhausted like I have to sleep. I hate it
It's either function but be exhausted and no pain
or don't function don't be tired and pain.
I need to speak with my doctor about this I suppose, thank you for your insight!

Hey TheDarkness, you've got a similar thread going on over in The Dark Side, I'm going to go ahead and close this one (we don't really condone starting multiple threads in different forums that are basically asking the same question). I feel you'll probably get better replies over The Dark Side either way.

Please PM me if you have any questions.
