Hi! I can't be the only one here who suffers frequent migraines, so I'm kind of on the lookout for others because of what a weird and delicate balance it is between drugs, migraines, rebound headaches, etc. I did a search and didn't see a migraine thread but if there is one, please let me know and close this (or move it elsewhere if needs be).

Something I'd like to hear from other migraine sufferers...and this is the ONLY site I feel comfortable asking on because others are so uptight...is about the euphoria you get from pain relief. Not from the meds themselves, but when FINALLY that horrible pain goes away, do you get kind of a high from that? I seem to experience that frequently even with just generic Excedrin type drugs, and it feels like an opiate high, and I'm wondering why that happens in the brain and if it's common.

Also, I'd love to hear from people who suffer with migraines any time a bad storm front moves in. I'm in the Midwest and the weather changes so frequently that I have trouble dealing with it...I've only had migraines for a few years now.

wow i learn a new word everyday... migraineurs...
I don't get migraines but i TOTALLY UNDERSTAND the euphoria from getting rid of pain/discomfort.
I get Akathisia from my antipsychotics and when the cogentin FINALLY kicks in it's like OMG i can finally sit down this is awesome!

do you know why you are getting frequent migraines? a friend of mine discovered several things oranges being one of the things that caused migraines and I think it was another food, she then got allergy testing done and it certainly lessened the amount she was having once she cut foods out. Another person I know needed glasses so maybe a trip to the optician might be useful, same person also found out they were diabetic from going to the optician. What all folk who have migraines are told by the docs from what I can see is they should keep a journal of what you eat, drink, different places and see if there is a link between getting migraines and activity or food group. It could be certain drugs you are taking are causing these migraines as your body may react differently to drugs after affects. hope you get it sorted :)

I don't often get migraines but it happens the day after of being unable to reach a deep sleep (REM Sleep) from stimulants the night before. Sleep deprivation induces migraines as the mind and body must replenish the brain cells during the REM sleep patterns (generally occurring every 90 to 120 mins during sleeping periods). Stress and migraines are even worse to handle as a result of restless nights of insomnia/inability to reach REM Sleep, which make you more stressed, tired and have migraines the next day.

could you possibly find a routine you could do after taking stims to help you relax which could in turn help you destress and eventually get in to a good sleep? maybe find an alternative for enjoyment if it is causing so much stress and pain :( what about yoga gentle exercise then a hot bath with some favourite smells see if it can relax your body and mind enough? not good hopefully you will find something that works

I use to suffer from migraines, i haven't had one in 6 years and i hope i never do again.

I couldn't ever pinpoint what caused mine but i use to use my laptop/computer in a dark room for hours on end which i think over time caused strain to my eyes and eventually resulted in a migraine happening 2-3 times. The last one i had was the worst.. i became so sensitive to light that i had to keep myself in a dark room or my head under the covers.. the pain eventually overwhelmed me and i passed out, i woke up a couple of hours later feeling normal and that was my last experience.

If i had to guess, sleep deprivation, over-stimulation, stress and strained eyes would be factors to consider.. but it's all speculation, even the medical community isn't sure what exactly cause's migraines. I've only had 3 in my life and they were all at least one-two years apart.

I think it occurs as a result of over-stimulation of the cells in your brain. As they are energy sources, and require sleep and rest to regenerate to full functionality, stimulants would over-exert the cells, sometimes until cell death. Something along the lines of oxidative stress on the cells. It makes sense though, as energy can only be in action for so long before the cell is tired and doesn't want to 'play' anymore, or dies - as if the little brain cells have a heart attack from over-stimulation :L. Water, showers/bath and exercising does definitely help reduce the migraines and making sure your are getting enough oxygen intake (deep breathing exercises can be helpful). Regardless, stimulants really do place your body, mind and especially your heart into overdrive which can be very dangerous. Sometimes the negatives outweigh the positives of the drug, and that is why I keep in moderation and remain at low to medium doses.

I had a migraine every single fucking day for almost 3 years. Nothing worked. I ate only a real food diet, cooking everything from scratch. I stayed hydrated. Tried supplementing with vitamins and minerals. My life wasn't particularly stressful. I got plenty of rest. I wasn't doing any drugs.

I just couldn't get them to stop. One day it turned to a different pain, and it was like a steel spike had impaled through my left eye, all the way through the back of my brain. I couldn't get out of bed for a month, literally. Had to call into work and explain and had to have my girlfriend cook for me and bring me water and vicodin. I couldn't even sit up to eat sometimes because the pain was so intense. I got a CT scan which gave no answers.

I had heard that mushrooms and LSD can give relief, but whenever I took them with a migraine I got a few hours of relief, followed by a hangover migraine the next morning.

One day I smoked DMT for the first time. It was amazing of course. As the trip faded, I noticed my head felt free of any pressure and I was no longer experiencing a migraine. Cool, I thought. Well the next morning I found myself completely migraine free. That effect didn't go away. I was fucking amazed. 3 years of losing my life to a daily migraine and all it took to CURE me was a single hit of DMT?

That month I felt early symptoms of a migraine once or twice and tried taking a very small hit of DMT. The warning signs went away right away and again the effect lasted. After that month consisting of just a couple treatments, I no longer experience migraines. That was a year ago. Even if I don't smoke DMT for months, they don't come back.

I think this is something that hasn't been really talked about and I hope I can somehow bring this miracle cure to the forefront. I'm not the only one who's had incredible success with this. A member on a private forum I frequent mentioned that they cured their migraines in a similar way to me using DMT. They said they even got their sister and their mother, also, migraineurs, to try taking a tiny hit (<5mg) and they, too, found that it immediately relieved their symptoms.
