Favorite metal bands of all time and why

I have listened to metal for about 5 years I cant listen to anything else but maybe some good rock music hard rock.It doesn't appeal to me.I love my music started with dying fetus Children of Bodom and a few others now I listen to most all metal and many sub genres.

My favorite sub genres would be death metal Black metal Metalcore Melodic Death Metal Speed metal and Thrash metal.

I can listen to most metal like I said but I do stick to a few usually
My favorite bands Children of bodom I believe at least in my opinion is the best melodic death metal band great lyrics over all great instrument fussion
All That Remains their drums beat my skull in just loud heavy murderous drums also pretty good lyrics heavy vocals at times but also light easy vocals at other times.Kalmah great lyrics amazing instrument fussion extreamly fast guitar drums are also heavy and fast.

All That Remains and Kalmah are awsome for tripping listen to that shit high it will murder your brain
those are my top 3.
 
There's lots, but to narrow it down my all time favs are Destroyer 666, Anaal Nathrakh, Akercocke, Dying Fetus, Kyuss, Black Sabbath, and Pig Destroyer.

I like variety and riffs, and all those bands have both
 
Pantera and Arch Enemy -

Pantera's lyrics, Phil's roar and falsetto high notes, the synergy of the brothers Vinnie Paul (drums) and Dimebag (guitars), and the insanely aggressive, but catchy tuneful hooks and strange solos make me just bounce and wanna headbang.

Arch Enemy - Their female singer is seriously hot and her vocals - well it's just amazing how that can come from a woman; the guitars and drums...oh it's all just wickedness. Can't really explain why I like em.

Love Dimmu Borgir, Metallica and Megadeth too.

Naglfar are pretty sick, but nothing compared to the ones perviously mentioned.

Oh - and Necrophagist are awesome - their music is so technical and quirky, but what I don't like is the vocals - seriously mediocre.
 
Favourite sub-genres are probably progressive and instrumental,

Pantera, Metallica, Deftones, Animals as Leaders, Born of Osiris, Sikth. Can't decide which I like the best.
 
Black sabbath is the greatest metal band ever. I mean, they are the pioneers of the genre. My top 2 metal bands are probably pantera and black sabbath
 
Lurker of Chalice, Amesoeurs, Peste Noire, and Leviathan are some of my favorites. I really like bleak, depressing metal as silly as that sounds.
 
metal and its subgenres is something i stay far away from as a rule, but i fucking love the black dahlia murder and lamb of god
 
OP is from Louisiana, high five, I am too. My favourite metal is all that fun sludge that comes out of the south, and even more so just bands from LA. Acid Bath, iwrestledabearonce, crowbar, etc etc came out of Louisiana and I love them. And all the various side projects of those groups..but outside that


Skinny Puppy, that was so fucking rad it changed my life. I have never heard them really before that and went, speeding through it, and SP's crazy, aggressive industrial music. it was cool.

Black Sabbath & I have to say Them Crooked Vultures, and those are my favs.

I have been seeing them live since the Mind the Perpetual Intercourse. New album comes out 2011! YEAH! =D

Ohgr solo albums are pretty damn good too. If you like metal and industrial look into Swamp Terrorist. They sample Slayer riffs n layer the over speed techno drums.
