Unfortunately the article does not specify the "perfect" dose of psilocybin, nor the weight of "typical" dried P. Cubensis to get it.

I guess that will be up to US to figure out once the paper is published. =D

715 comments in the story already... clearly lots of interest. DECRIMINALIZE!

The hallucinogen in magic mushrooms may no longer just be for hippies seeking a trippy high.

Researchers at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine have been studying the effects of psilocybin, a chemical found in some psychedelic mushrooms, that's credited with inducing transcendental states. Now, they say, they've zeroed in on the perfect dosage level to produce transformative mystical and spiritual experiences that offer long-lasting life-changing benefits, while carrying little risk of negative reactions.

Magic mushrooms have been the main factor in overcoming my OCD.

Much love fungus! <3

Lol I have no obligation to the label. It doesn't have much negative connotation, at least within the community. Call me what you want I'm still gonna keep eating those fungus :D

So you're telling me hippies DO wear shoes?

Jokes aside, I agree. The term hippie in this day generally conjures up an image of a person who is more environmentally/spiritually/maybe even politically aware than others. Lots of people associate dreadlocked people and gutter punk crusties, which is fine I suppose though lots of people with dreads aren't hippies at all and just because you're dirty and don't have a job also doesn't mean you're a hippie. I wouldn't be bummed if someone wanted to label me a hippie though, the connotations are mostly positive as far as I'm concerned.

About the article, that is awesome. heh

Yeah, maybe someday US drug and medical policy will be run by people with a genuine interest in helping people, and not by big pharma trying to build a mountain of money.

I believe they would have many medical and psychological benefits.

I can't really understand why Psilocybin is so heavily controlled - I think its one of the safest chemicals out there. Even taking the bad-trip element, I'm sure there are a greater proportion of alcohol users who have a severe adverse reaction which ends in hospitalisation than Psilocybin users.

I genuinely believe Psilocybin should be at most a class C drug in the UK (same as Cannabis should be), given its relative safety. This comes against a backdrop of accepting that Alcohol should be a Class A drug.

Still good to hear another article that accepts there's good potential medical utility of such a compound.

I'll add: I think Psilocybin probably would be a better choice than LSD as it is generally a slightly easier experience, and is shorter acting. This would be more desirable from a psychotherapeutic standpoint.

Actually extending this further, I think this could greatly benefit sufferers of Autism, and some higher order variants such as Asperger's Syndrome, as the chemical will help to allow them to explore and develop empathy.
