Faking your way into a methadone maintence program

So I have read all about why some people on this forum treat methadone like the devil itself. So no responses on why you really shouldn't do this, I am just curious and have no intention of actually doing it.
What would it take to fake your way onto methadone maintence in say the US, what about UK or the netherlands?
 
Funny... I was just thinking about the same exact thing. Too bad I live in bumfuck and there's probably not one anywhere within 100 miles from here.
 
It's not to hard.. they will interview you and ask questions about your use, they may also take a urine sample (this is the one case where its GOOD to test hot for opioids) .. just look and act like a junky, tell them you're tired of this life of dope use and would like to give methadone a try..
Now, it depends on the clinic yer dealing with, but MOST will want you to go in daily for meds and then a month or two later you can take it home..
 
Don't they monitor you to figure out what dosage you should be prescribed or something?
 
Yippee!!! So, I just did a search and found out there are several local programs. I've never even been able to find heroin in this God-forsaken city. So, how fast do you think I'll get kicked out of the program if I attend a few meetings and start asking people where I can score?
I am interested in learning more about these programs, though. Like quale said, how do they monitor you? How "hot" should you test to get accepted into the program? Can a substance abuse psychiatist administer the goods instead of having to go to group meetings and feeling like you're in AA?
 
Methadone isnt really very fun. I had my doc give me a presciption for the tablets to aid some minor withdrawel I had from percs. Trust me, you will be very disapointed in the effects......and arent worthy of any effort to obtain. You can always pretend to be an alcoholic and get some valium if your that desperate.
 
Yeah, I've heard that before. Isn't it one of those things that depends on individual taste, too? I mean, I hate demerol like it's the devil but I love dilaudid. I could care less whether I ever saw another percocet but I start every morning with a cup of coffee and a handful of vicodin. I've never had methadone but, considering that I don't have a constant connection, why not try it out? At the very least, I'm guessing that I'd meet a lot of people with similar interests and get free (or cheap) drugs. Too, it wouldn't be bad to have something around for the "in between" times when I can't have some random surgery performed to cop some meds. (OK, I don't always stoop that low but I HAVE.) Has anyone here ever actually participated in one of these programs? Any experiences you'd like to share?

Uh... not really. Methadone is used in detoxing because it's known not to have euphoric effects like heroin. Sure, I've heard RARE cases of someone liking methadone, but I'm pretty sure that's because they were totally naive. I have a good friend on MMT right now- he surely doesn't get high on his dose- it's just helping him get off his habit. Plus, withdrawls from Meth are well known horror stories- why would you want to take that risking the chance of getting addicted if you currently aren't a junkie?
Boggles my brain. I do have a smack habit- at least when I bang that, it feels unfucking believably good... just get a connection and learn how to score real drugs.

They keep very close tabs on methadone patients. Pretty standard from state to state as far as I know, but there are differences. It can take MONTHS to get take-homes of your meds- otherwise, you have to show up EVERY day and take them in front of the attendant. Random piss-tests to make sure you're still not hitting the non methadone opiates, meetings, all that shit. No fun if it's not for actually detoxing yourself.

Well the deal with methadone is that unlike heroin it seems to promote morphin receptor endocytocis. This means your opiate receptors disappear back into your cells and (usually I believe) recicled back out again. I don't see why you can't just overpower this problem by taking lots of fucking methadone.

Got some info from a methadone maintenance advocate...
In the United States, the Federal Regulations a very detailed on who can be
admitted to MAT.
In some states, like California, for example, the person must have two
documented prior detox attempts.
Here in Washington, DC, people need a notarized letter from a relative, pastor,
doctor, etc. stating that they have known the patient for at least a year, and
the patient has been an opiate addict for at least a year, to their knowledge.
Physical indications, such as track marks, absesses, "doughboy hands" etc. tell
a tale. Many kliniks require a "sick intake", the person must be in full
withdrawals before the klinik will admit them. This is all for first treatment
episodes only. Here in DC, once you are in the MAT system, you are in, I have
been through 4 times and only needed the notarized note the first time.
First day dosing is capped at 30mgs, unless the physician feels the patient
needs more. If for example a patient has a large oxy habit, documented via
prescription bottles, note from prescribing physician, etc., the MAT doc can
give 30mgs, then have the patient come back 4 hours later for more methadone.
Most methadone overdoses occur during the induction period. Long term
methadone patients almost NEVER overdose on methadone alone. No one seems to
know what the "lethal dose" of methadone alone is...........
With people who snort oxy's, there are no physical signs, like tracks, thats
why many kliniks in Oxy areas require a "sick intake".
All kliniks are required to take a first day urine sample, but usually it takes
a few days to get the results. Some kliniks make the patient WAIT until the
u/a comes back. i.e. they do not dose patients on the first day. Many kliniks
use the dipstick, like probation uses, but taking a few T-4's prior to the test
will cause an opiate positive sample.
Actually, aside from these pesky reporters, I have never heard of a non-addict
trying to get into treatment. This is medical treatment for a very serious and
devastating disease. Why would anyone want to "fake" having this disease?
Thats like trying to "fake" that you have cancer just to get opiates.

I don't know about you, but I'd fake that I was a pregnant woman and my unborn baby had cancer for a good supply of oxycodone.
There is nothing too low or shameful when it comes to opiates.

Hey, I'm not saying I agree with everything he says- posted that more for the direct info on what it takes to get into some MMT clinics... I think we all (junkies) have broader limits when it comes to what we will and will not do for a fix.
