We just tested and colour was dark purple/black but I was told that even OMO (washing powder) can turn black? How accurate are the testers? Is it safe to trust them?

They are reliable as far as I know.
I never heard of washing powder turning black - you could always try testing washing powder for comparision?
I'd go ahead and take the pills, dark purple/black sounds good to me.

thanks simon, i was considering giving it a miss tonight, but havent touched them for 3 months and i am really craving one..hope it's good! will try the washing powder test anyway. I am trying to be cautious cos of all the panic attacks i seem to get from speed based ones

Cool. I'd be amazed if there was washing powder in the pill, anyway. ;)
(Check dancesafe.org or ecstasydata.org for info on what has been found in pills).

there are a couple of things that can cause Marquis to go black, but OMO is not one of them.
This thread that babydoc_vic linked to was probably where this ridiculous rumour started. The story screams of urban myth, and has not been verified.
Just for the sake of science i have just tested some washing powder. I used Surf concentrate, as there was no OMO handy, but i'm assuming for the moment that, like most consumer items, all washing powders are roughly the same, regardless of the what the ads tell you. If someone can tell me name of a chemical that is specific to OMO, and OMO alone i will repeat the experiment with it.
I used Marquis (non brand) and no colour change was seen. there was some slight fizzing but that was about it.
We now know that washing powder will not give a purple/black reaction. In fact there are very few things that will give a full false positive (ie quick change to purple/black with a flash of royal blue) to Marquis, and even less that will also give false positives to Simon's and Mandellin as well. Cross reference all three and you will be able to determine if MDxx is present.
Now this doesn't mean that other things aren't present. There very well could be other chemicals in the pills that could cause you problems, but lab etsts have shown that the greater proportion of pills contain only one or two active substances plus fillers, and cleaning products aren't really popular :)
this was also covered in this thread in this forum.

the paper goes black because it is being burnt by the acid, and the liquid itself, which is always what we are looking at, stays clear.
pour enuf Marquis on your own skin, and leave it there and it too will turn black...

For the record, the first time I heard of anyone saying omo/washing powder gave a black test result was a post on bluelight approximately 2 years ago. Someone was testing a lot of household products when they got a new tester and said this. I think they later edited that part out of their post, so maybe they realised they were wrong. But it definitely didn't start with that post!
